looking to buy cd/mp3 player

ok i already have a sony tape player with sub output but i want to get a nicer (and one that actually plays cd's) head unit

i really dont want to spend to much but i dont want garbage equipment that puts out noise .... but that leads me to first question, if i got say a lanzar cd player would i notice a difference between that and say an alpine? not with features but pure sound clarity with the same cd and all that

i dont want to spend more than say.... $130 since i do need to buy an amp + box + wires + 6.5 compenet speakers also
