I'm looking to add a Kenwood DNX8120 to a '07 Toyota Camry, I'm looking to have it be able to run with the car off occasionally to watch a movie or video or just simply listen to music. The car currently has the stock JBL system with a JBL amp and speakers.

I'm thinking of just getting an Optima YellowTop to hook up with a battery isolator. I'm just wondering how a setup like this would work, and would it eventually be expandable to be able to hook up an aftermarket amp later in the future.

(Positive)

Main Battery->fuse->isolator->second battery

(Negative)

Main Battery->Ground to Chasis

Second Battery-> Ground to Chasis

Does that sound right? I'm thinking the isolator would be able to allow the second battery to charge when the car is running too, would I need a switch or voltage meter or anything to help monitor the voltages or turn on/off the isolator?

Do I wire my Kenwood unit any differently to have it run power off the second battery? Or do I wire the stock JBL amp differently also to run to the second battery instead.

skip the isolator, its not worth the money. You dont have to wire your new head unit any differently. You'll just have more reserve power with the 2nd battery attached in parallel to the original battery.
