Looking for SQL..

I've decided on the JL w6v2's, and I'm really looking for SQL. I'm still in the process of trying to learn and figure things out, so bear with me.

I've read very varied discussions on whether or not the size of the sub will directly effect the tightness and SQ of a bass. I hear that 10" is tighter and has better SQ.. while 12" is more boomy, as opposed to that statement being a complete rumor.

Then theres the box. I've also been reading about the different volumes. JL recommends 0.625 cu. ft. for the 10", which offers 0.797 QTC. They recommend 1.25 cu. ft. for the 12", which offers 0.812.

I've been reading this article to help me understand more about boxes. http://www.carstereo.com/help/Articles.cfm?id=29

Now.. taking all this into consideration.

For best SQL results, (SQ for me being very tight bass response between very rapid bass parts, and SPL to the point right before the rapid bass parts grow into one big bass sound)

What inch speakers should I go for? And at what QTC?

I was thinking the 10inch around .84 only if 10" do in fact provide tighter bass response.

If thats the case, i'm going with a 12".

I'm thinkg probably around .8 QTC. It says that .707 is the closest you can get to original recording, but with more QTC, it provides more body to the bass.

Not exactly...

.707 is just a good guideline, but lower Qtc alignments are certainly possible //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

do you already have the 12W6v2?? if not, how much were you looking to spend?? i'm thinking about selling mine. bought them a month ago, still haven't gotten around to installing yet. send me a PM. great sounding subs though, i've heard them before.

.8 is a pretty good QTC, the butterworth alignment of .707 usualy provides the flattest response curve and good low end extention so it's a good guideline. I'd say the JL recommendations are good, but if you have the room it couldn't hurt to make it a little bigger.

The box has a tremendous impact on the sound of the sub. The size of the sub does not (other than SPL).
