Looking For Sq Amp Suggestions

I'm looking for some suggestions. I'm building an SQ system

that will be 8chan. Front stage is all MbQuart 8"mb, 4"mid 1"

the subs will likely be (2) MbQuart RSH-252's. The head unit,

eq, crossover are all Sony ES P1, X1, T1. Looking to run

between 100-150wt on the 8s, 50-100wt on both 4" and 1".

The amps will need to be low current draw because no up-

grade alt is made for the car. I've looked at both the JL HD,

and Alpine PDX but would hate to miss something. I honestly

don't know much what is made/sold these days. This is my

first system in 8-12 years.

Greatly appreciate it.

What about one of those new Zed Audio 6 channel amplifiers?

Personally, I would use all Lunar Amplifiers, but that is just me. Other solid "Sound Quality" choices would include: Arc Audio, Zapco, Audison, Genesis, Tru Technology, and a few other European brands that I didn't mention.

IMHO, you need to determine your budget, then proceed forward from there. After determining your budget, work with the constraints of what is available in your set budget.

Lastly, although a lot of people like to rag on JL Audio on this very forum, JL Audio does make a good amplifier and has excellent customer service. Unfortunately, I find them rather pricey for what you get.

GUN,

Thanks for the reply and advise...

Honestly I haven't considered a budget, mostly because if I find

something that meets those needs and doesn't look like a boat

anchor I don't mind paying for it. All the other gear aside from

the subs are already paid for. I forgot to mention that I have also

looked into McIntosh but they really aren't low current draw amps.

Current draw is the most important aside from SQ.

So, needs to be 8chan or 6st with 1 mono

low current draw

very good to great sound quality

For numbers sake lets just say under 2k.

Alpine PDX is far from reference grade productionStay away from it.

They just don't sound right on full range. Coloration is audible
I agree because I have yet to hear a full range PDX amplifier that I like. OTOH, I was impressed with the JL Audio HD series, until my local dealer said that they wouldn't sell below MSRP. The 900/5 would have worked out so good in my Mustang. Oh well, such is life.

You could run two Hifonics Series VII Gemini(4 x 50w @4ohm) amps. You would have 6 channels of underrated 50w @4 ohms for the components and you could bridge the other 2 channels for the sub and get 120w @ 4 ohm mono. Operating current on music is listed at 23A for each...... so 46A total. These amps put out clean, underrated power and sound great. Considered some of the best ZED ever built by many.

Edit: They would also be "era correct" for the '89 car.

I am partial to old Adcom but they can be hard to find and a PITA to setup. The Old Kicker ZR amps sound much more transparent than they are given credit for. Zapco is great stuff too. Then you can spend more money for great amps for things like McIntosh, tru, etc.

Funny you say that, I have noticed a few on FleaBay

in the past 4 weeks. Two are on now or one just came

off both have been on my watch list. I didn't know they

were that hard to set up? how so?

To be honest with you guys, I would give my left testie

for a Blade SE but they are so very rare. I wish I had

kept the ones that I have had in the past. Without a

doubt the best sounding amp I've ever owned. Thats

sayin somethin, I've been in and out of the hobby for

20 years now.

GREAT SUGGESTION! I honestly am going to have to research

these, I know zero about them. Not even a store in my area

that sells Hifonics. But that by far is the best rating I've seen

within the hundreds of amps I've looked at! GOOD STUFF thanks

man!

Not new hifonics, I have a small TXI 4008 and I compared it to an old MTX thunder 2ch and the MTX blew it outta the water, I dont even know why i have that hifonics!

I competed with the old MTX stuff for about 2

years. Without a doubt looking for something

that has better sonics than MTX. Don't get me

wrong they amps are really strong; I'm just wanting

for a bit warmer. I guess that is kind of vague.

the white 4304 was mine. I have a few of them.

The issue is the DIN plug and the line drivers. The line drivers tend to be noisy. For front stage I usually run a nice deck or processor with a decent voltage out and only use the driver for sub duty

You should check out the new Zed audio Leviathan. 6 channels of 150 watts per channel and it can be bridged in different ways. Lots of flexibility. $600 and very much an SQ amp.

I'd also reccomend the JL HD amps. I know several SQ competitors, from Mark Eldridge to Team Hybrid members, that are running the JL HD amps. Noce amps but a bit pricey. The Leviathan, by comparison, is a bargain, especially when you consider that each one is hand built in the USA.
