Looking for speakers, specific search. $100

well I'm getting help with the install and I know that I def wont be using a DMM to tune. Just by ear. But still, in that case I guess I can just keep the gains close to 0. or at least dial it back more than I think is needed for "safety"

I would personally never hook up an amp without using a DMM to tune, but it's not my system!

At the very least, remember: Turning your gain to full does not mean you're giving your speakers your amp's full power. You have the ability to tell your amp to give out way more power than it can safely do, which can blow both your amp and your speakers.

The JBL's I linked do not blow easy, and they could prob take 100-120 clean watts with ease. What Alpine amp are you using? I use the JBL power comps (comp version of the coaxial I linked) in my wife's car powered by an old Alpine T-420 (150 or so watts at 2ohm).

Do you know that there are some component speakers that allow you to mount the tweeter like a coaxial? I'd opt for the components just for the crossover, but I think there are also some coaxials that have a crossover.

The amp is an Alpine MRV-T707 V12.

Well I mean its those JBL or the hertz coaxials. Which do you think would really be best? I'd assume the alpine would produce clean power. I'm just gonna try to tune it as reliably as I can. I'm not looking to max out anything.

I think the hertz would be better than the jbl's at least for sq and just overall build quality. You def want to use a multimeter for tuning, heck get a cheap one at harbour freight or something, just do it and u wont be sorrry.

I mean as long as the speakers will sound good. At least better than the avg. car stereo. And have decent mid bass and SQ. I'm happy. I just need them to be loud enough to be my main speakers. Since I'm only upgrading the front stage.

I think im gonna tune by ear first, then eventually find someone to help me tune it properly.

I heard that o scopes arent that amazing though since every song will be different clipping wise.

You don't use a song to test with an oscilloscope, you use a single tone. I'm actually thinking of buying an oscilloscope and offering amp tuning services in my area.

well wouldnt it hold true either way. That some songs would still clip and others wont?
Not if you use a proper tone. Nothing can be louder than 0dB in a recording, so you use a 0dB tone. At that point, your amp can't possibly tell anything to go louder and use more power, so if it doesn't clip you're golden. It's the same theory as tuning with a DMM. The tuning tone is going to push the most power to the speakers/subs and so you tune your RMS to that so you don't blow your speakers due to pushing too much power through them on any song.

man I need to find someone in my area to do that. I guess I'll tune it by ear then look for Someone to tune it better. I'll just keep the volume and gains low until I do.

right now ive got it down to two. the hertz and CDT cl-6ex. same price.

the reviews on both seem great but a little better on the CDT. has anyone heard those personally?
