Hey all,

I've been out of touch with car audio for quite awhile, but decided I'd go ahead and install some of my old equipment into my current car, as well as buy some new gear to round it out. My JLw6's died a long time ago due to water exposure in a past car (the trunk had warped itself out a bit, and water leaked in regularly.

My current equipment is:

Eclipse CD deck (I forget the model, but it's the one thing that's actually relatively new)

MB Quart 6.5's QM-160 Old school Q series stuff - looks like this:

PPI amp old school also, PC275 - looks like this:

I'm looking for suggestions for a budget of $2000 or less. I can do everything myself, as I have done it all before, except I really don't feel like building a box this time around (I'd rather pay for a custom one, or whatever).

I'd like to get solid bass, with clarity being the primary purpose, and assist the highs with either an EQ or replacing the Quarts, or whatever. The PPI amp still runs like a champ for highs, and the speakers still sound as good as ever, but I'd replace them if needed.

I'd like to make sure I have enough room in the trunk for my spare tire (full size, not a donut), but it doesn't matter to me if it fits underneath or if it's leaned up inside the upper trunk area.

The bass should be capable of going super low, while remaining clean.

I'm too old to care if anyone is impressed by the system, as long as I'm happy with the end result.

I rarely listen rap or techno, but would still like it to perform as well for rap as it does for classical and rock. Smaller is better for everything, but I'm willing to sacrifice almost the entire trunk if you think it's needed.

I also listen to a lot of talk radio, so sound quality for speaking voices would be important as well.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

barrier

I would go with a 15" FI Q possibly sealed (if you dont want a lot of output)

Powered by a 1000 watt amp, maybe a Rockford Fosgate T1001

for speakers look into Focal 165 K2P components, they are very nice sounding and arent that harsh as they have silk tweeters (but are quite pricey)

if not look into and search this forum for Rainbow components as there are many threads and reviews im pretty sure

depending on which components you get depends on the amp you need to power them

im sure more people will chime in i just did this real quick before bed since no one replied

Thanks for the replies and the PM. This sounds like a good starting point for some research. I'll start looking at some reviews for those.
