I just picked up my 07 Maxima and I'm looking to replace the BOSE system. I'm looking for the following recommendations.
Front component replacements (looking $200-$250 range)
Rear door co-ax replacements (looking $100-$150 range)
Single 10" in the trunk in a small box (will be pulling the rear deck "woofers" to allow more bass into the passenger compartment)
Amp suggestions for the front comps/rear doors (I'm thinking something in the 100W rms-per-channel range).
I don't need a competition system, and I don't want to rattle any windows with the bass. I'm 36 years old and I'm just looking for a nice, clean system that will give me good/great sound. I'm not sure what head unit I'll be using to power it just yet. I don't have a bloody fortune to spend, but I don't want to "cheap out" and regret it later.
What amps should I be looking at/staying away from (Memphis, Soundstream, Alpine, JL audio, JBL, Audison, Diamond Audio, MB Quart, Polk, etc...)
Also, 4 ohm vs 2 ohm speakers? I know I can get a lower power amp and pull more power if I run 2 ohm speakers. Any plus/minus's either way?
I plan on acquiring the parts over the next few months and beginning the install in the coming spring.
I have an Alpine CDA-9887/Imprint, Polk speakers, Kicker amp combo in my Altima, and it's very nice. I had a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X692 with a Kenwood KAC 8402 amp and some Sony 2 way speakers in my Taurus, and I thought it sounded pretty darn good for what it was. That being said, I'm still not sure which way I'm leaning on the head unit. I will probably stick with single DIN, as I have a travel DVD player and a GPS already, so no need to pay for it again.
Speaker-wise, I'm looking at Polk, Infiniti, Boston, JL, JBL, (I need something fairly shallow to fit into the door, and I don't want to have to get into cutting the door panels...).
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
