I would shy away from a MS8, it's designed around enhancing factory headunits. Hope this helps good luck with your build.

The ease of OEM integration with MS-8 does not make it less suitable for use with aftermarket equipment. The advantages of the proprietary processing of the MS-8 are more powerful than what a skilled tuner could do with as many bands of EQ desired. Besides not being a highly experienced tuner, the "magic" the MS-8 will do in a few minutes is the reason I just switched from an Alpine H700 to the MS-8. I understand a number of SQ competitors have tried and moved on from the MS-8, but since almost none of us on this site are competitors I believe the MS-8 should be on the short list of processors for the amateur.

That is a good comment. I don't like that the ms-8 has no optical input. I have never used one, but I may try one in the future. I have heard of issues with bluetooth integration and some problems with reliability. But you can get a used ms-8 for around 300-400$ so it probably would be money well spent.

Mini DSP would be fun to try as well. I was just trying to share some of what I found in my search. I was going to get one, but you have to buy the one with the correct input voltage you need.

+ 1 for the MS8 there are a few downfalls of the ms8 tho, if you use the auto tune you cant then go change the paramaters set you have to start new.

^^ that's a pretty big downfall... unless the autotune is **** near perfect.

If you had a deck with an eq on it you could make some adjustments after the autotune I believe. lol

Lemme know what you think. I head it does a pretty good job for the money. I was looking for a DAC in my search for a processor... I don't care for the DAC's in most decks, but I am weird like that.

I'll probably end up stacking 2, 2 way active + subwoofer processing.. Or run the crossovers off of the amplifier, not sure what I want to do yet.

It's got noise cancellation on the inputs so there's no benefit to using optical. You only need 1 pair of full range RCA inputs from an aftermarket head unit so that's still just one cable to run. I can't personally comment on bluetooth although I think I read about a firmware update that corrected the problem of echoing or delays on phone calls. The reliability issues are something I have read about and I decided to take a chance on it. Basically I wanted the smoother frequency response and signal steering of the MS-8, which I would never get with 31 bands of EQ per speaker. It's not nearly enough resolution, although I did really enjoy the sound I was able to acheive.

I don't doubt that it can drastically improve the levels and reduce noise etc. But I want my processor to convert the digital signal to analog. The only dac I really liked in a deck was with the cd7200. Was a big win for that deck.

Before any processing is done to alter the signal the MS-8 does a digital-to-analog conversion.
