I have a Kicker 1000.1, looking for a loud daily sub, without sounding retarded. Preferably able to hit some decently low notes.

As I have no tools or time to build a box I was looking into Dave's value boxes. I've looked at numerous subs, none of which I have experience with.

I've looked at the Kicker L7 12" (In kickers pre-fab manufacturer box)

and their dual L3's in their box.

I've looked at the Alpine type R 12" in a ported Dave box, and an Alpine type R 15" in a sealed box by dave. I have ~400 dollars to spend on sub + box. Thoughts?

What kind of budget do you have to work with? I'm sure we can help you get something figured out for that budget that will get you where you want to be.

Dave's prices are rather high for what he has to offer. I'm not sure on his "value box" but I don't see where it could be much of a value for how we design and build our enclosures for the prices we charge.

I've got about $400 to spend on a sub and box. I don't want to buy a pre-fab, I want to buy something that's built strong. (Hence why I mentioned Dave's boxes). I'd be looking to buy a single ported 12" box ideally. I haven't decided on the sub yet. How would a DC Level 3 12" compare to a 12" Kicker L7?

I would look at a SSA Gcon myself. Great sub will handle some power and sound great. Our enclosures are custom built per each application. We are also currently the only enclosure builder that ships with 100% packaging guarantee.

I've never head of SSA. I looked up the GCON on youtube and it looks very nice. Is it too good to be true? How would it sound compared to other subs mentioned in this thread?

keep digging around the forums. the gcon will probably whoop the L7 in the db/dollar ratio. kicker's square subs are known to be pretty loud but sound quality is poo and they are also expensive ($350 for a L7 12" on sonic). $400 is a pretty decent budget, if space is not a problem a 15" gcon + box should still be under 400
