Search for 4th order bandpass. It's not really very unique design and you see pre-fabs like it all the time.

As said, nothing special about the enclosure, just a 4th order bandpass.

Though, what your probably wondering is why it's louder in the car than in the trunk of the car???

The port of the bandpass is being directed thru the pass-thru opening of the seat, ergo, all the bass response is going into the cabin of the vehicle with no loss or interference of bass cancellation from trunk area.

When using dual subs in a 4th order bandpass enclosure like that, it'd be kinda stupid to have them not facing eachother. You would not be guaranteed to have both vented enclosures the same volume either, because you don't know the exact displacement of the backside of the woofer, so you couldn't compensate when building. And the motors of some subs don't work perfectly symmetrical (same movement forward as backward), so making them face eachother prevents that from having an effect.

its had to get bass from a trunk into the cabin on some cars that are well built, that box is a great way to get bass into the cabin if the box is designd well and that one does look well done). bmws are notorious for being hard to get good bass because the trunks just eat the bass. if i owned a car like that id do my subs lke that.

I dont see one valid reason in your post why subs in a bandpass setup need to face each other. I agree it generally looks better, but many bandpass setups have the subs fire the same direction (not at each other), or at angles. If you must face the subs at each other in order to guarantee enclosure volume space, there's something wrong with your fabrication skills.

benefits and disadvantages? -3 db drop using bandpass, limited frequency response only in a very strict tuned peak of the band means only one certain thing sounds good and everything else is poop.

Sorry, no advantages come to mind.

i heard bandpass boxes are very dangerous for subwoofers because distortion is hard to hear till the sub has gone bad........don't know if its a fact but thats from what i've heard........great looking install though...can't take away from that....
