Local BB getting ~ 60 PS3's

Those trailers are pre-rendered movies, just like Sony has been doing for years. They flaunted the graphics on the PSX and PS2 with pre-rendered cinematic footage and they are doing the same thing with the PS3. Please don't act like the GPU for either 360 or PS3 is amazing considering the PS3 isn't even released yet and PCs already have a better GPU in the nvidia g80 line.
PS3 has been released. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

There are videos of actual games since the PS3 was given for review to many companies alread.

And a computer does not compare to any gaming system out there.

Have you seen the price on the players and the hd-dvd discs? Yea, it's going to catch on REAL quick just like all the other "awesome" media that caught on in the last 3 years //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
Cause you know, that any new technology that comes out sells for a real cheap price.

I remember went DVD players first came out and people were getting them for $50. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

PLEASE tell me you meant this as in you can't compare a computer to a gaming system because the computer will ALWAYS be better. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me that's what you meant, otherwise I might poop my pants with laughter at your stupidity.
I'm talking from a gamin point. I know hardware will surpass consoles easily.

but the consoles will have the better games.

As it's repeatedly shown year after year after year, quality of a medium will not guarantee its survival as a format. Whether or not it's commercially accepted by the public will...
Amen to that!! Who here remembers Beta?? Much better picture quality than VHS, but where did it go???

But think about it this way - the infrastructure for standard definition DVD's were already in place, and how many years did it take for them to reach critical mass? Quite a few...and DVD had several fundamental benefits over VHS, which HD DVD's do not have over standard DVDs.

HDTV by itself hasn't become mainstream enough for either HD-DVD or Blu-Ray to really take off, IMO...hell, the FCC's still dicking around with the changeover from analog broadcasting by extending the "deadline" a couple more years.

The only market for this stuff right now is a very fickle one, that will try anything as long as it's new and different, and move on to whatever's next without so much as a pause.

I'm not sure about the whole HD DVD/blu-ray thing myself. I have a bro-in-law who is always trying to compete with me when it comes to technology. For instance, home theater. I don't have anything yet, but have been planning for a while since I'll be building a home in about 3 years. It's an interest of mine, and I always read about it since it's something I'll likely do. He always throws stuff in my face about what he's getting for his. Last week he was going on and on about getting a hd & blu-ray dvd player. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

He's a school teacher and so is his wife. His stupid self literally can't afford to be buying all this stuff, but yet, he goes on and on about his projector (that he doesn't even have) and how it's better than rear-projection tvs (which I personally would go with if I HAD to buy at this time). //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif

Point is, he's one of those people who buys things and latches onto how "great" the technology is, then 1 year later is trying to get rid of it and saying how it went belly up. I'm not making a move on hd/blu-ray for AT LEAST another year.

Better yet, who remembers miniDisc? It was supposed to be the next big thing. Then apple dropped a bomb on Sony. (btw, I owned a miniDisc player for 2 years and still have it)

Betamax, Laserdisc, SACD, HDCD...all superior formats, quality wise...plagued by problems that made them unattractive to Joe Consumer.

Will HD DVD formats be added to that list? In five years, I think we'll be closer to an answer...

Mini Disc is still really big overseas. Well, maybe not REALLY big, but it took off a lot better than it did here.

That's part of why I get a perverse pleasure out of besting the "latest and greatest" with 70 year old technology //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

He drives me nuts. Seriously. My fiance's (I know I said bro-in-law but he's about to be anyway) family talks about how he can put songs on their razr phones and how neat it is. I'm like WTF, I did that to Lindsey's (my fiance) phone 3 months ago. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Best part was when he was asking me about car audio and said that there was no reason to upgrade his speakers in his Acura (that his wife paid off upon marriage) since they were bose...then he listened to my SLC's and within a week his wife was asking lindsey about my speakers. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif

Blu Ray FTW!!!!
says the guy who most likely doesnt own a blue ray player let alone seen one in action up againts an hd-dvd player...

its gonna take at least a couple of years for any of the two formats to beat dvd. if any of them do. they both might just limp along till something way superior comes along or they both might die wich i doubt.

you guys really need to see one in action on a good calibrated 1080 p display

they sound a whole lot better then dvd

picture quality is alot better (but it also depends on screen size and if its calibrated and seating distance)

and when you want to go to a different scene in a movie you dont need to stop or even pause it the menu comes along on the bottom or the side depends on the disc

ps hd-dvd is killing blu ray in sales

Yes because we ALL know that there has been a game more popular than Counterstrike/Half Life 1/2 /WoW/EQ/UO/Diablo 1/2/Countless other games, on a console in the last 10 years //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif  //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
