LMFAO! local audio shop ='s complete idiots

I went to the local car audio shop after seeing several cars with the name of the audio shop on their windows and such. So out of curiousity I figured I would go there and see what they had and why so many people have the shops name on their windows.

I go there, and it is a very small shop, nothing looked good about it at all. The owner happened to be there, so I figured I would ask him what they had.

I went up I said

"So what brands do you sell"

He replied " only the best!"

So i was like, O'rly?

Shortly after he said that, he continued with " Lightning Audio, Pyramid, Pyle, and Audiobahn"

I Kinda chuckled.

So decided to go along with him. I asked him what would be the best setup for my car. He pointed me towards a pyramid HU, audiobahn amp, and audiobahn subs.

The pyramid HU was priced at $130, which I thought was outrageously overpriced, but didn't say anthing.

I was stunned at the next few words he said:

"Yeah, that Audiobahn amp pushes 1000W, and the subs push another 1000W, so you will have 2000W worth of audio in your car."

So after that, I pretty much figured he had no clue at all what he was talking about, so I wanted to go along with it, and act like I was impressed by what he was saying to see what other dumb things he would say.

I asked him how many DB's the system would be.

He answered

" Well the amp will give you about 200 db's and the subs will give you around 50 db's each"

At this point I was about to smack him for being so dumb. I do not know a whole lot about car audio, but I do know enough to make everything he said seem hilarious.

So I went on to ask why I should get the ones with chrome flame baskets instead of the ones with less chrome.

So after having my fun I decided that I would leave him alone, I actually feel like I fried a few brain cells trying to hold a conversation with him. It was really fun tho, I guess he convinced his customers that adding a sticker advertising his business will add 50 db's.

It was funny cuz just the flame basket subs would have costed $300, he sold them things for $150/each. My whole "system" only costed $150 and I feel like I got ripped off for paying that much.

Get 8 subs = 400 db's from subs alone. Stay away from the chrome though, you don't need them supercharged.

I'm too much of an *** to have not told him that the current world record hasn't broken 190dB on the TL sensor which made his statement even more ludicrous than it was standing on its own merits...

Most shop owners know what is needed. And that is how to sell the equipment. Obviously his lines worked enough to get you in there intrested.

You will find many shops to have the knowledge of basic car audio. But will say anything to sell.

he's probably on another forum laughing how he has some kid convienced of that he could hit 400db's. funny story though, i hate my CC so much that i won't even take my deck in to get repaired. i'd rather live with it not staying flipped up

I did that at the local CC here a few months back. The manager of the car audio department told me he built some of the loudest cars in the area. I asked him if he had ever gotten them metered. He said yeah one hit 135db, it was too loud to sit in the car...

its a fairly new shop, just opened up last summer I believe.

Iam not gonna mention the name of it, cuz I don't want to hurt their business, but yes it is in Kentucky, a very small town in south kentucky. I think it is the only shop in my town.
