literal A** kicking? please

Its mostly in the install. Most of the kick in your kickdrum is going to come from not the sub but your midbass, which is usually the 6 1/2 driver from a component set, find a set with good midbass already, then give it a good install to get the most from it. Pair that up with a 10" - 15" sub, give it all some good power and it should play ANY music well.

Like jujumantb says, install means a lot on how a sub sounds. Most junk people by at stores is bandpass "cool" looking boxes that sound really bad. A high quality sub in the correct enclosure can do death metal just fine.

My 12a hits double bass perfectly and sounds awesome. It's a good speaker in the correct box.
