"You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done," he told top GOP leaders, whom he had invited to the White House to discuss his nearly $1 trillion stimulus package.

One White House official confirmed the comment but said he was simply trying to make a larger point about bipartisan efforts.

"There are big things that unify Republicans and Democrats," the official said. "We shouldn't let partisan politics derail what are very important things that need to get done."

That wasn't Obama's only jab at Republicans today.

While discussing the stimulus package with top lawmakers in the White House's Roosevelt Room, President Obama shot down a critic with a simple message.

"I won," he said, according to aides who were briefed on the meeting. "I will trump you on that."

The response was to the objection by Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.) to the president's proposal to increase benefits for low-income workers who don't owe federal income taxes.

so it's ok for obama to play with his die hard democrat buddies, but it isn't ok for republicans to even listen to limbaugh. typical liberal hypocritical thinking. when obama decides shuts down conservative talk radio, maybe he will set aside his

hipocrosy, and do the same with the daily kos and moveon.org.........somehow i doubt his level headedness runs that deep.

But OTOH there are ALOT of incompetents out there who are better off being unarmed and defenseless than they are having a gun in the house. Experienced cops have accidental discharges that nearly kill themselves, their family members, or their co-workers. Doesn't give me much faith that the average joe with no formal training can be responsible about it. How is it we have to have a license and demonstrate some sort of a skill level to drive a vehicle but we really don't in order to own a gun.

i agree about that... there is some training required to get a ccw, depending on the state. when i got mine, it was an 8 hour class, about 2 hours worth of safety and handling training and the rest legal. there should be bare minimum 12 hours training in safety, mechanics, and marksmanship to own any firearm IMO. more to carry concealed.

and i dont think any person in their right mind is arguing that automatic weapons are necessary for a private citizens protections, although they are a blast (no pun intended) to shoot.

i don't think the 2nd amendment states what kind of gun I can have. It says,"the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed" where did it say bear arms except for my assault rifle?

Not to pick nits but there is also mention of 'a well regulated militia' in there but most people don't mention that part. And I don't just mean learning how to shoot, I mean weapon retention. If you are a 120 pound weakling with zero strength and no grappling skills who expects if you ever have to shoot someone that it'll be like firing at a human-shape target from 10 yards, your 'gat' will probably just be taken away from you by the bad guy and used on you if you don't accidently shoot yourself or someone else with it first. Everybody thinks about how much easier it will be defend themselves, not too many people think about what they'll do if the bad guy ends up standing there pointing your own gun at you because you are not physically fast enough and strong enough to retain it and get separation before you fire. Not every potential armed confrontation starts and ends with people standing 10 yards apart.

Sorry forgot about that issue but once I realized what you meant I responded to it. Re my posts about Mccain marrying into a fortune built off racketeering, his luck in being able to escape going down with the Keating 5 in the S n L scandal in the 80s, and Palin being associated with an Alaskan political party that wanted to seccede from the United States. you're going to sit there, with a straight face, and tell me that i, as a law abiding citizen with a perfectly clean record and the proper training, should not have the right to carry a gun (which is a constitutional right by the way, i dont know if you've ever heard of the constitution?) in case any of the thousands of gangbangers, crackheads, or just bad fucking people in my city who carry illegal guns decide to attempt to do me or my loved ones harm? and wichita ks is not a rough city compared to some, but you will get robbed at gunpoint here.

Some have interpreted it to mean the national guard, the modern iteration of what the founding fathers envisioned as a state based, regulated and properly trained force in place to resist should the issue of tyranny in the federal government ever arise again and an organized force needed to be in place for that eventuality, as well as to assist the federal military in combatting foreign threats. Though it has become something different this was originally considered a sort of check and balance against if the federal government ever decided to pull the same things we fought the revolution over and uses the military as a tool to those ends. It has of course evolved from the older concept of the state militia and is now considered a reserve force for the military. This started shortly after the revolution when the federal government was given a certain degree of control over state militias in the event that the need for the manpower arose.

and what the h3ll do we need a militia for in 2009? what's wrong with expanding the national guard we already have? we all know what it means, but question the actual reasoning behind it. in 1 breath, he's going to go "line by line" through the budget, but then expands the budget massively. he makes zero sense.

Read the Philly Daily news or Philadelphia Inquirer for a week. Let's see, as I can remember in the last 2 months... Home invasion in a wealthy suburb. Whole family tied up, father shot and killed.
Wacho crashes into several cars on crowded street, jumps out of vehicle, and starts wailing away randomly with an assault rifle.

Thugs car jack vehicle at gunpoint, drag old man several yards because he doesn't get out of his driver's seat fast enough, gunfire erupts.

You think it'll never happen to you, well what we're seein now is random shit happenin where you least expect it in broad daylight.

Makes me thankful to have mine, but at the same time makes me wonder how the F@CK nobody ever seems to accept responsibility for them getting theirs so easily.

In which one of those situations would a gun have benefited them? In most cases people are caught by surprise and unless you have it on you (which you need a license for) it wouldn't do you any good.
