Ok guys I have a 04 Dodge quad Cab. I just installed a Hifonics 1608D and a Kicker 200.2 with two 10 inch CVR's wired to 1Ohm. My truck has a 136 Volt stock Alt and a 800 Amp battery.

I was thinking the lights would not dim but they are dimming when the bass rolls and then I smell somethin getting hot, not sure if it is voice coil or what. Do you guys have any idea what the smell could be? Also this battery is the stock battery that came on the truck new in 04 so it is five years old.........Do you think replacing the battery with a yellow top will work out for me or am I going to need a bigger Alt also. Thank you for your time and help.

you are giving each sub around twice the rated rms watts. im pretty sure that cant be good for those type of kickers. also check your gain. again i may be wrong but it sounds like you are over powering the cvr's. your amp at 1ohm=a rated 1200 watts. its probably pushing less than that but still alot of power.

that hifonics dosent pull that much current, but if your battery is old and weak you may need a new one soon... you'll be fine with the stock alt

Thank you for your reply. I do not have the gain set all the way up, it is around 70% but the way I figured it was

12.4 times 100 = 1240 times 60% = 744 Watts....So that should be a total of

372 Watts per speakers. Which are rated at 400 Watts RMS.. Am I wrong?

My stock batt dimmed with just my PPi highs amp.

Replaced it with a hc2400 under hood never had dimming again to this day.....but i switched the underhood batt multiple times for diff ones.

Still same result.

Personally, when I see questions about lights dimming and batteries, one should be think about the alternator. The only time your battery is going to be used to power your equipment is when your vehicle is turned off. When the engine is running, you are getting your power directly from the alternator and its amp output is what is causing your lights to dim.

The amp rating on your stock alternator may be adequate for the electrical load of the vehicle from the factory, but once you start adding amps, especially BIG amps, you are going to need more power. You should seriously look into a high output alternator.

Yeah deff the big 3 done right with 0/1 guage cables.

I have a stock 80amp alt in my scion and its ran a 2610 hifonics amp and the 1010 version 250x2 for highs and only stock upgardes ive done is big3 with 0/1 wire crimpt and soldered and new stock terminals and at rear of car a kenetics 800 . lights dont dimm at all when im driving about so deff look into your wiring //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

the amp is 1600 watts @1 ohm not 1200 ( @ 14.4 ) and that amp will cook those subs the smell is the voice coils burning.

70% is irrelavent, you set the gain according to rca output, it isnt a volume knob!

wrong math try this:

12.4 x 140 amp fusing = 1736 watts x 70% efficiency (they are actually 74%) = 1215 watts rms @ 1 ohm which is exactly what they are rated at for 12 volts, either way you are gonna torch those subs, the biggest brutus you can safely use on a cvr is the 1208/1210 model. I use Hifonics amps on Kicker subs 4-5 times a month doing customer installs.
