Here is my setup:

I am running 3 ver.1 JL 10w6s powered by a Diamond Audio D6 1000.1 @ 1ohm. Just got a 250A alt from Mechman. I have 1/0ga. from batt to alt and batt to chassis(I need to do chassis to block). I also have 2 sets of Polk DB6500 components powered Diamond Audio D6 700.4. I have an old Optima Yellow top that survived 2 burnt out alts. Last time I had it check(5-6 months ago) it tested ok.

My Problem:

MY LIGHT DIM!!!!

Could it be my batt? Could the non-block to chassis be the problem? Please help.

may want to get a bigger or better battery....optimas are weak...i have one as a back battery (g34 blue top) and am ready for some stronger batteries.....i know interstate makes some nice batteries that are stronger than optima...just look up ur local interstate battery store and have them guide you to the marine battery section....find one that is biggest that will still fit in your car.

Two issues I see.

1) Only one weak battery up front

2) You need to finish Big 3

You can fix the battery situation one of 2 ways. You can simply add another Optima in the rear (not the best thing to do), or you can keep the yellow up front for starting and add an isolated big battery in the back.

Wow. Didn't know that 1000 watts would need another batt. Thought the 250A alt would definitely fix the dimming. I'm gonna do chassis to block tonight and see what happens. So would it be better to replace the front batt with a better one or do a dual without being sure if my yellow top is still good? My yellow top has been through 2 bad alts.

load test batts and check alternator output. If it has a smaller pulley you may need to get a smaller belt or space something maybe get a bigger pulley on something else. I would start there after simple checks to make sure everything is wired right and not loose. does it have a grounding lug on the alt? if it does just ground to that and your big three is done.

The issue is not the max current your alt can make, it is how fast can it make that power. Before the bass hits, let's say your vehicle is pulling 60A of current. Then this big bass note hits and suddenly needs an additional 100A of current. Now that 160A of draw is not too much for the alt to make, but it does take a small amount of time for the alt to ramp up it's output to that 160A from the 60A it was making. In that small space of time, your battery will assist. If you have a weak battery that is far away from your amps, it will assist very little. So in that small space of time when your alt is not making the full power needed, and your weak distant battery is not helping, your lights dim //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Oh! Cool! I just learned something. Does this mean that I don't have a good alt? How do I measure how many amps my truck draws without my system on?
I am sure your alt issue has nothing to do with quality. It is more the basic design of an alternator and it's regulator not being designed to fluctuate in output at the speed of dynamic music. I don't know of a charging system that could. That is why a battery is essential to assist the alt for that short period until it ramps up output.
