Life Span of Subs

Hey, I was wondering what the average life span for a sub was. I am looking into getting new subs but was just curious about the life span of the rl-p and xxx are. They would be powered by a Viper 1200. I thought either 2 rl-p 12's or one XXX 12 or 15. Chief

There really isnt any life span on subs. it all depends on if you abuse your subs or not. and when i say abuse i mean by overpowering them way over there rms rating. if you send them there rms or a little over there rms they should be fine. But no one can predict when their sub is gonna blow or if your gonna run into technical difficulties with it.

but yeah, it all depends on how you use it, what kind of weather exposure its in, power,box, yadda yadda... but as long as you are careful with it, you and your sub will have years of fondness together.

Assuming you don't abuse the piss out of it, they can last upwards of 25 years.

Also depends on the surround material...older foam surrounds have a tendency to dry rot (which is why old Boston Acoustics and Klipsch gear has been often times re-coned) but otherwise, they should last as long as the mechanical parts hold out...
