Left Channel Only Not Working!?

What am I doing wrong? I've got a Soundstream 705s 5-channel all hooked up. The subs work fine and the front and rear speakers on the right side work fine. No sound whatsoever from the left front and rear speakers, though...

If I disconnect the left speakers and just touch them to the right speaker terminals, they produce sound perfectly.

(1) Why would the left side only on all channels not work?

(2) Is it okay (or is it bad) to hook them all up to the right side terminals?

The left channels are probably blown. You can hook everything up to the right channels, but it will change the ohm load your amp sees on those channels, and at too low an impedance, you run the risk of frying that side as well.

It's probably time to get what you can out of that amp and look for a new one..Or, you can check into geting that amp fixed..which would probably cost around $100 or so.

Before you assume that the amp is bad, however, eliminate the possibility that it may be an ill that will be less expensive to remedy.

You already stated that moving the speaker inputs on the left channel drivers to the right-channel amp outputs produced sound. So, it's obviously not a speaker problem.

Not trying to treat you like a n00b but sometimes the most simle explanations are the most commonly overlooked - so check to see that your balance control on whatever head unit you're using isn't biased all the way right. If that's not it then move on to your interconnects. Swap the left and right RCA inputs on the amp to see if using the right channel (which is obviously transferring an audio signal) will make the left speakers work. Swap them at the amp first - do the swap with the deck turned off then turn it back on to see if it made any difference. You've gotta make certain that it isn't something so simple as a faulty RCA - and then check to make sure the preamp outputs on your head unit are working.

After getting rid of those possibilities then move on to seeing if that side of the amp has gone bad.
