Layoffs... where's the logic?

Second: I seriously doubt he made a signifcant amount less than me. The guy is driving a brand new car.
maybe he's just good with money. one of my buddies gets a new audi every year, and doesn't make much more than me(around 70k). he's just good with money and has perfect credit.

Sucks. I suggest you apply again since they're hiring now. Have you been out looking for a new job? If I were you I would take anything I could get. And definitley sell your system if you haven't yet.

I have had no job for almost a year. I got fired and now need to go out and sell shit i buy at bars and on the street. O well i just can't wait for the gelato machine to get here so I can set up with that sucker. Just start finding other stuff to do where there is a will there is a way. any one local want fresh gelato and ice cream the new machine gets here in 2 weeks and I can get production up.
i want some ice cream

logic is if you speak perfect english it does not mean you're better at a job. If you got fired, then there was a reason for it. If you so good at this IT shit as you state it shouldn't be any problems for you to get a job.

Don't let this mess with your head, I'm sure you were not the only person laid off and they told you flat out that it was not based on performance.

The other guy's nationality should not play into how you feel about what happened.

Remember, you have no control over this kind of shit, and it happening everywhere .

you said you worked a lot of weekend and overtime, paying you overtime proly cost them more than the foreign bastard so they cut you loose because you have too much work ethic.
Did you not learn how to read in school? He already said he doesn't get paid overtime because he's salaried.

Its just smart business. If a company can inshore H1B's or offshore the work completely they save tons of money. Wall Street wants to see good earnings reports from these companies, and companies need to do what they can to keep their stock price up.

Its not rocket science, and its something all of us in the tech industry need to realize and prepare ourselves for. The days of the well paid American tech worker are numbered and there is nothing you or I can do to change that.

So I got laid off from AT&T about 3 months ago. Today, I found out that one of my co-workers who is from India and can barely speak english and been in the US 2yrs, IS STILL WORKING THERE, and never got laid off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WTF WTF WTF WTF? I mean really. So Americans get laid off, but keep the foreigner's working?

Unbelievable, really.

So where is the logic, when it comes to companies deciding who loses their job, and who doesn't. Who is that guy that picked my name?, and I was very good employee who worked tons of overtime and on weekends.

I'm a network engineer btw. And I'm not one of those idiots that can't pay for their mortgage.

But, I'm am totally screwed right now...

Savings = Gone

401k = Gone

My car is about to be repossed, and I'm late on rent.

And to top it all off, I heard AT&T is hiring again! whaaaaaaaaa?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif
Don't take it personally. You were layed off b/c you probably make twice as much as the guy from India. That's the way American business does it.

Who has worked for the company longer you or the foreigner? The way Lowe's went about laying off people here is they went with the people who had been there for a while and were making top pay. All they did was just bring in a bunch of newer guy's with some previous experience that they could start out paying the minimum amount to and had them trained. I had to get rid of around 15 people from my RDC just last week and that was basically how they picked.
