I was curious if it was possible to have my laptop running through my pioneer headunit, so i could play dvds in the car through the speakers.

Does anyone know?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

the easiest way to do that is to get an externial video capture card. It should have an RCA connection coming out of it for video and audio. I will be getting into it as soon as i get a laptop. And the more i find out the more i will try to keep the board posted. later

i have a jenson hu and a laptop and yes, you can use it if you have an aux input on the hu. just buy an Y-audio cable with rca's on one end and a small headphone type on the other and just plug it into the headphone jack on the computer. i just use mine for mp3s, but it should work for dvds. you have to adjust both the radio and headphone volumes to get a decent sound.

Exactly. If you dont have the RCA Aux input- you can use the regular 1/8 Aux input jack on the HU and run that to the Speaker output on your laptop.

Of course, once this is done, there are people like me that also interface thier laptops with thier cars ecu to display engine readout- Air/Fuel ratio, oil pressure, water temp, amperage, rev band-etc and make adjustments to thier engine from thier laptop. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Once you get started, its hard to stop! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Hey Zane, how exactly would you got about doing that. do you need a special program and wiring. is it easy to do. would i be like on "the fast and the furious" when it shows the guy how his engine is doing?

Basically it is a module that plugs in inline to the Cars ECU and has an extension USB end that plugs into your computer. Special software is required, as well as a pretty good knowledge of engine mechanical. They are not the easiest thing to use or install by any means. Allthough it is only a few connections, locating them as well as completing the precautionary wiring is a bit of a headache. There are default safe zones built into most of these set-ups, however, as not every car is the same even within the same model specifications; damage could result to the engine if it is mis-tuned.

This is a lot like the setup that was used on the Fast and the Furious.

Go to http://www.sumitracing.com or http://www.optauto.com and search for software. This may give you a little more idea as to what these set ups entail.

How is the display on the head unit ? I am looking into either the kenwood 910 or the pioneer 7300 for the eec tuner. It has a virtual dashboard which i will have the video out from the laptop to the head unit but im wondering how the quality of the video will be ? Any ideaS ?
