laptop to tv

OK, so i have the cable that is needed to connect my laptop to my tv, however once it is connected i cant figure out how to transmit the signal.

Can anyone help?

control panel > screen resolution > advanced(if on XP) and switch output to tv screen

ok i found it but it says its not connected to a tv.

It gives me 3 options: monitor, panel, and TV. it says that the panel and monitor are hooked up but not the tv....

No, restarting shouldnt be needed...its a simple click of a button and it switches it over to the selected screen.

yes...mine does the same, but I do know of a few that require a restart for the comp to recognize connectivity

On mine, you go to control panel, display, then settings and click the "2"....then click the "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor"

Works every time.

ok i got the desktop to go. but its just a distorted image of my screen saver.

are you trying to use s-video? if yes, then it will be a distorted image because the resolution will be low.

if you did the way I said, then move your mouse past the right edge of the screen and you will see it pop up on the tv

edit: and you can drag anything to it....apps, pictures, video

ok i can get the mouse over there, but is there no way i can watch movies on the tv?
