Hey I just traded for an amp off here its a Lanzar opti2000d. When I go to set the gains with the dmm I start to turn it up and about half way it reads 20 somethin then goes down to 13.8 the input voltage. It doesn't go into protect mode or shut off. Did I get a bad amp?

who did you buy this amp from? there was a opti amp that had bad gains, did you buy that one and not read the description all the way?

No I traded my hdc3 18 to bobtista for it. He stated in the public thread that everything on it worked properly.

are you using a constant tone when you set gains? if not then I would expect the voltage to jump around. Explain EXACTLY how you are setting the gains

I play a 50 hrz tone. Turn the amp all the way down. Start turning it up slowly. On dc voltage on the dmm. Once the gain gets about half way it reads around 25 volts then when I turn it up any more it goes straight to 13.8.

DMM needs to be on AC voltage and not DC

Maybe your dmm needs batteries some dmm's freak out when the batteries are dying

your ddm must be bad. it should not read the same on dc as it does on ac.

No it's not the exact same it jumps around on ac like it's supposed to, but once it gets passed like half way up it won't read over like 13 volts. I have seen it spike to like 30 something for a split second then right back down again.

My mean machine kinda did this....I have to set the gains at 20 volts to get RMS wattage and it would go up till it go to 18.87 volts and then stop rising...no matter how much more I turned it it never went past that.....

Try setting it by ear. Weeds out bad dmm or bad amp.
