L shaped Port

Hi, I am building my 7th box and I have yet to run into this problem till now. I have built a Kicker Specified box for my S10L7. It was a 2.25 cubic foot box @ 38hz. The port was on the right side and the sub was on the right front so the port ended facing away from the sub. Now that I am building a bigger box for my new S12L7 from the Kicker L7 manual like I did last time but this box is 3.25 cubed and the port is on the same side but there wont be any air room from the side of the box because of my trunk. So what I want to do is put the port on the left front side but the port is 3 inches shorter than the depth of the box. Is that going to be a problem or do I need to make an L shaped port? if the port is less than 3 inches wide then yes it'll be alright. but if the port is bigger than 3 inches u might need a small "L"
