honestly either one would probably be fine i love having more then one battery it makes things in the future so much easier....

just make sure you take a few things into account

for 2 batteries you need extra wiring and make sure your connections and grounds are very good

Jl 500/1...i kno i shouldnt need power upgrades since i have the bose system complete with 120 amp alt...however the battery i have is an old 580 amp and its a pieceee. To wire it up i could just use the run of wire i have from my battery upfront the goes to my amp now and then get a couple more feet to go from back battery to amp correct?

you can go either way really. hc800 is good for 800 watts and the hc1400 for 1400 (will be a little less because it would be the primary battery)
