what can we say. well, as far as pure SQ goes, the JL can certainly do that bit. as far as SPL goes, it can do that too, as nate munson showed, by swapping out his DD's with 13W7's one time and losing no db at all. as far as street pounding and impressing your average kiddie into car stereos, the W7 can drop jaws.
Solo X. now i havent heard the Solo X so cannot comment personally on its SQ. for its worth though, my next door neighbour has owned and still does, 4 old style, round solobarics and they are brutal, both in SQ and SPL. they are the old skool subs that can still hold up quite well today (Soundstream SPL, JLAudio W3/W6, ID IDQ's being the others - thats it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif ).
but in a way it makes no difference whether the solo x has SQ or can do SQ as its all subjective. to some people, a W7 is too clean for a sub. some think its the best woofer on the market.
so for the solo x, SPL wise, the mic's speak for themselves. they do pound, no doubt, but need LOTS of power, LOTS and LOTS and LOTS of power. SQ? well, apparently michael hughes won a couple of comps with his solox's, although whether the solo x's were actually on during the SQ judging or not, is not something i was aware of, as pointed out by somebody here.
so to sumarise.
both can SPL.
both can street bass and pound
W7 can do SQ. solo x? i guess it could too, providing the box was spot on and maybe some sort of eqing would be necessary too.
also, keep in mind that kicker have a 10 and 12 inch versions of the solo x now, which means they're out to target the daily driver market and deplo the myth that the solo x is an SPL only woofer.
