Kicker Solo-Baric S12L7 questions

I have found a place that has the Kicker S12L7 subs on sale for under $200. The specs on the sub say that the RMS power is 750W and the MAX power is 1500W. Is there any way to run the sub at 1 Ohm with the 2 Ohm or 4 Ohm model, because i have found a mono amp made by BOSS AUDIO that will run 850W max at 1 Ohm. The amp comes with a free 8 guage wiring kit and only costs $119. Also, would it be better to use a ported, sealed, or bandpass enclosure.

i believe lots of places would have the 12"L7 at prices below $200. The 2ohm model can drop to 1ohm via parallel wiring. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Ok, about that Boss amp.. they aren't really a reliable brand to start with. The amp is rated at 850watts MAX @ 1ohm. It might be safe to say that the RMS would be about 425RMS. Not enough eh? Then again, Boss would probably over rate the amp's true power, so I say you'll be getting 300w~400watts RMS from it.

Don't be cheap on amps, that's what sends the power to your subs. lso, although the L7 has a rating of 750watts, you can give it more than 1,000watts all day.

Last point, you don't need to follow Kicker's recommended enclosure, if you want more out of it.

Under $200 for 1,000watt amps would usually mean dealership prices or second-hand on ebay.

One of the cheapest that I know of are JBL's 1200.1, but they go for about $275.

It might be a cheaper alternative to get a 2channel amp (2ohm DVC's can be wired to either 1 ohm or 4ohms). Bridging two channels will yield about double the power rating on a 2ohm stereo channel.

i.e.

XXXXX brand 2 channel amplifier

power (RMS)

100w@4ohm X 2

200w@2ohm X 2

400w@4ohm mono (X 1)

i like the idea of a two channel, but more than likely it will be a class ab. check into the avionix 400.2. i dont much about em, but the guys say that they are good. cheap power? lanzar vibe 1200d. its only $209 shipped at thezeb.com.

bro, please DONT BUY BOSS!!! they **** more than a $2 ho on dollar day.

also youll kill the sub with all that distorted power.

The quality of crunch amps are a bit better than Boss...

if you can ONLY get these two, I say get the crunch, but seriously, a BIT more cash and you might have a more powerful amp that doesn't break on you all the time.

go to

http://www.edesignaudio.com

and look under amplifiers. THose amps are underrated. There's a lot more if you look hard enough.

You could also get quality second hand ampsright here in the forum. Just make sure that they are reliable people to purchase from. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Alright alright, I know this prolly wouldnt be an amp that anyone would reccomend but im doing my loyal service to Profile, (what can I say, absolutely love'em:D ), anyway, you might look into the Profile CA1200. Bridged rms power at 4ohms is 900 watts rms. Get the dual 2ohm voice coil L5 and then series them and bridge the amp and get 900 watts rms. The only problem I can see is, the amp will pull ALOT of current since its a class a/b.

There are some that like profile amps (Mike a.k.a. Goddyd4me) and I think he's knowedgeable enough to use worthy amps.

Should be nothing worng, so long as it delivers what it claims...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

ive have always had problems with profile. i had a hook up were i could get em cheap brand new. man them things are not good for pushing subs imo. if its hot outside it will cut off on ya. most amps will under certain conditions, but this thing was horrible. i have one word for ya bro................ PATIENCE. dont do yourself a diservice and buy a crappy amp. save up another hundred and get something better. so what if it takes a few weeks. thats better than buying cheep sh!t that will last a few months. dont cheat yourself, treat yourself. SAVE AND BUY SOMETHING RELIABLE.
