I currently have 2 Kicker L5 12"s in my trunk powered by two Kicker 600.1 mono amps. They are the 2002 Kicker L5's at 4 ohms how would you recommend me wiring them... I also heard that a 600.1 is too much for an L5 would anyone agree with that ... Thanks for the help

ok so i guess this would lead to my 2nd question on these subs... i have had to replace 3 sets of subs... i first started out with L7's... the voice coil was burning... the local store that i bought it at said it was my box was to small... i had them custom build a box and replace the set of speakers... well about 2 months later i burned them agian... now they say its my amp... send it off to get it fixed... then replace the subs they said im UNDERPOWERING the L7's so i was burning the voice coils... so i downgraded to L5's another 3 months in they burn again... this time i was told it wasnt recieving enough power... i upgraded my alternator to 130amps bought a 2nd red top battery and have two 1 farad caps... i also up graded all my wire to 0 Gauge... i now think i smell the buring about a month into it... IM WORRIED i dont want to replace these subs anymore... does anyone have ANY SUGGESTIONS!!! no one in TAMPA WHO DEALS KICKER KNOWS WHAT THE HELL THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT!!! and the gain is set a notch and 1/2 below the half way point...

thanks for any help!

Kyle

hate to say it Kyle, but it's not the product, either woofers or amps...please don't take this wrong, but it's the user. Now let me tell you what i mean. i think it rolls down to what and how you are listening to them.

Sure, you can overpower them, but really underpowering them will never hurt. But the problem is when people 'underpower' them, they max the gains, max the bass boost, max, max, max and before you know it, the woofer coils are fried.

Power and enclosure are very important when dealing with any stereo equipment.

But if you have blown that many sets, I hope your not maxing out everything. It could be the amp....is it a good quality amp, is it getting the proper voltage, do you have the right wire, ground, etc,etc

If you email me direct I can get you in contact with the local Kicker dealer best suited for you, and once they dial in your system, lock it down.

Sure turing the gain and possibly bass boost max is louder, but only for a short time. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

email me at tfocht@kicker.com and I will see what I can do for you.

I'm with Polecat on this one.......if you have blown that many sets of subs, then the problem isn't the equipment. Improperly set gains/bass boost/etc, and/or turning up the volume too loud with those improperly set adjustments.

Could be the box being improperly sized as well.....but if that was the problem, I'd guess you would be bottoming them out all the time and not just frying the coils constantly.

Honestly I'd say get with Tracy (Polecat) and have him point you towards another Kicker dealer in your area, and have that new dealer's installer look over everything with a fine-toothed comb.

Hey i apprecitate you guys help... my email address is Jax8287@hotmail.com the only thing about what you said is that my settings are not up that high... when they aren't up high you can barely hear the bass... i have a few settings on my head unit that i can make them hit harder... but i heard that if you are going to turn up the sub... do it from the amp... oh well i have heard a lot of things...lol thats why i turned to this website... thanks for your help once again if you could email that to me i would be very thankful.

Kyle

Kyle, shoot me an email...I will be gone tomorrow thru the 26th....

if you can't reach me in time, visit a local Kicker dealer and have them set everything...then don't touch it...it may cost a tad $$, but will be worth it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
