Kicker L7 for SQL

Wassup people, I just got 2 Alpine PDX amps to replace my JL Audio set up. I have the 1.1000 and 4.150 and I need some advice for good SQ. I've always had SPL setups, but I produce music now and quality before volume is my preference. Anyway, has anyone successfully had a 12 inch L7 do some pretty decent SQL? If so, what air space did you use, and was it sealed or ported? Also, has anyone used Alpine subs for this? I wanted to stay with the same brand all the way through if possibe. The vehicle is a Ford Expedition. Thanks in advance. P.S., please try to stay on the topic as this thread may benefit others.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif

Okay. I tried to find the Type-X at a couple of shops here in New Orleans to hear them, but no success. I've considered two 12" Type-R or one 12" Type-X. I want SQL, 60% SQ and 40% SPL. I have Boston Pro 6.5 for the frontsand Boston mid-level 5x7s in the rear for now. I may put the 3rd row seat in once every blue moon, but otherwise I use the space for cargo; tools, audio production gear, groceries, etc. So which would be better, and compared to the L7 ported with 500 wrms, would 1000 wrms sealed on either the 2 type-r or one type-x be be equal in spl?

Type X will be the way to go. I've never heard one but i was going to get one and i read lots of reviews saying they love power, can get loud, and sound great doing it. They also love small sealed boxes so that will save you space. I'd say get a box with around 1.3 cubes before displacement and you should be fine.

I've tried a L7 for SQ and there's only so far you can get. I used a 12"L7 and threw it in a sealed 1.5cu box stuffed with polyfill. I tried different amounts of polyfil and the best results came with very loose polyfill filling the entire enclosure with a little space for the magnet to go in. It still sounded very loud with 850rms going to it and decent sq, out of a kicker anyways. But now that I compare it with other subs, it still sounds a bit muddy especially at higher volumes, but still a great deal for a nice street beater. My friend's kickers sounded even qorse in sq with his dual ported. So yea, sealed with polyfill or just a bigge sealed. good luck

I got a type X in a 1.25cuft seaaled box and it sounds very clean, perfect for sql. Although i have to say that it's pretty hard to blend with my mids, as the type x loves LOW bass. I'm giving it about 800w. But it is very clean.
