Kicker L7 box question...

I am pondering getting a kicker L7 15" instead of my original idea of two Alpine Type-R 12's. If i went this route, i would have to top-mount the sub in the enclosure. how much space is necessary between the sub and the back (or in this case, bottom) wall of the enclosure? here is the enclosure i am thinking of using: http://www.subwoofertools.com/forum/ported-box.asp?Ew=33.5&Eh=13&Dia=6&Xmax=18.2&Vd=.14&NumW=1&Vb=3.5&Fb=36&Qts=&Vas=&Fs=&CE=0

With this enclosure, there would be around 3" clearance behind the sub. Will this work? and also, will there be any noticeable difference in performance with the port not being on the same wall as the sub? because the port would face the rear of the car, while the sub will face up. the box style is fine...it's called crx style...

i did a similar thing except i used a 5 cube net tuned to 35hz....

thanks for the quick replies. my only other Q is does the location of the port matter? i mean, i am going to build an enclosure that has the port on the left side of the face of the box. i am not going to relocate the port as in the above picture. that cause any problems?

In a SUV, it should be great. In a car trunk, widen the box and drop some height. Try to cover all of the back seat (horizontally) and keep some clearence for recoil. Also, try using a sealed enclosure (I don't like bandpasses regardless), this will in theory gain some levels and even pick up some quality. But if your persistant with bandpass, at least put the opening toward your seat as close as possible. L5s are great, just some people underestimate the space they need to breathe.

my trunk space is used up side to side and top to bottom with this enclosure. i only have 34 x 15 in those areas of measurement. i dont want to go sealed. i have a sealed right now and dont like the sound at all.
