Kicker Comp vr First Impressions

Been waiting for my box to arrive to install 2 15" kickers cvr's. After a pain in the butt install I have had a chance to take a listen. My previous setup was a lj audio 12w7(single woofer) on a RF bd1000 in a ported enclosure at roughly 3cuft

Same amp on this setup ran at 2 ohm final load. Sealed enclosure at just under 2cuft per chamber filled 50% with polyfill.

Loud and sounds great doing it. My jl was loud but had to go ported to do it and lost some of the bass I like to listen to to get the boomy kind. Had I had the money to get another jl I would have in an instant and just selaed two of them but it was too much money. These 2 15's will satisfy me until I do a wall this winter. I am highly impressed. I paid less for two new kicker 15's and the box shipped than I would have paid for just one 12w7

Don't get my wrong that w7 is built to last and I don't know if these kickers will last or not since i've only had them for one day to listen to but if they do last then if you're doing a basic install and want the flexibility of a sealed enclosure and want to get loud while having good sounding bass to real music you can't go wrong with these kickers...great subs at a good price.

those 15's sealed are quite impressive IMO and they do sound pretty good

I went from a prefab 1.25 cf sealed to a 2.0 (after displacement) ported tuned to 34 hz with my 12" CVR and im pretty happy. Although with all this talk about CVRs in sealed boxes, I am always wondering if I should have just built a new sealed box. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

I just listen to a lot of different music and today I have been working on some things and finishing the install and it just takes your breath away lsitening to Disturbed which my w7 ported wouldnh't hit on. Still have the boomy bass too. Litened to some mike jones and it was nice.

Very, very pleased with these subs. As of now I can't do anything but praise them...Plus had an excellent box builder that made things easy too.

keep the ported //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I've jammed for an hour straight tonight with my RF 1000bd at a 2ohm load and never once did I have any problems with either the amp or the subs and I can't listen to it at full volume for more than part of a song before it hurts my head. So i'd imagine it would be louder but at this point, I can't handle louder as a daily driver //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

agreed

power handling and spl goes up with the CVR's ported.

so long as they are tuned nice and *very* low its all good.

On a side note, I did a box for a mid 90's 4 door blazer with 2 of the *old* CVR 15's and a memphis st1500.

149.2 at 40hz @ the kick... at that low of a note i cant imagine less than a 148 on the dash. Sucker played any music you wanted it to.. ANY //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif. 100% SQL setup, the number really wasnt important.

I also did a 148.5 at 38hz with 2 of the new CVR 12's and a lanzar d3000m in my monte carlo, i really really miss that setup!

When I read sealed boxes are better for playing a wide variety of music... I cringe. All you need is the proper ported box and its all good - literally.

It's not like it's a set rule Spkrman, even the experts keep going back and forth. All I know is I had a w7 in an exact jl rec enclosure(ported) built very well and it didn't have great variety and to tell ya the truth I think most of the opinions are that of average installs and not the high science/math/money installs that can make a 10' outperform most 15's. While that's anice box you have there it's frekkin huge!

I think your average ported won't have as much sq as your average sealed. Personal opinion on what i've heard only.

who's to say JL rec's are the best?

and a box for 2 15's is GOING to be HUGE, no way around that //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif The box was only 8 cubes... the blazer just has a puny cargo area.

A ported box in the hands of someone who doesnt know what they are doing will sound terrible, but to generalize and say ported can't play a large range period is false //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
