I'm 17 and still kinda new to the car audio world... So I wanted to upgrade because my current set up doesn't hit that hard. I was looking online and found some comp r's already loaded with a ported box.

Kicker 40DCWR122 Dual 12" Ported CompR Loaded Subwoofer Enclosure Box

What do you guys think about these?

What other set up would you guys recommend around that price range maybe alittle cheaper... I'll be using the same amp until I can save up for a better one

My current set up I'm running

Pioneer fh-x700bt

Hifonics hfi1000.1d amp

Don't use that prefab ported box, build a custom box. The box is the largest factor in "hitting hard".
If I would to build a box should I build a ported or seal? I read somewhere if it's a suv ported would be better

ported gives more output bt requires more space. if you have an suv please go ported because you have all the space in the world

Take out the subs and wire them 1 ohm first before you do anything.

If you really want to hit harder, you are going to need a better amp along with better subs and MOST IMPORTANTLY a better enclosure. If you have woodworking skills, i'll post a link to some free box designs. If not then contact Boomsday, a member on here, he'll build your box for you at a **** good price.

But those are only 600 rms the comp r's are 800 each
RMS numbers does not = louder. Those HDS200s will absolutely **** on kickers.

What you need to look for is Motor strength(BL) ,excusion capabilities (Xmax) and actual power handling capabilities as in how big the voice coil is.

Kicker magnets are weak, voice coils cant handle power, overall a much weaker sub.

You can literally throw 1000 rms at a single soundqubed and it'll take it just fine.

However your amp does not make much actual power, you'll only be able to fully power 1 sub.

If you have the space and want to actually get REALLY LOUD I'd recommend you getting A http://store.soundsolutionsaudio.com/products/sundown-audio-sa-18-600w-sa-series.html Select the 2 ohm version so you can wire it down to 1 ohm. Your hifonics should at least power this sub up enough, but a stronger amp is due in the future. IF you dont have that much space then do a single 15, browse that store you'll see some of the best stuff thats out there.

DO NOT PUT THIS IN AN EBAY, SONIC, CRUTCHFIELD OR AMAZON PREFAB BOX. THEY WILL BLOW THOSE POS BOXES APART. CUSTOM PORTED IS A MUST, only costs 100-150 built and shipped to your door if you go with boomsday.

Trust us man, whatever you thought you knew about car audio is just baby stuff compared to real competition gear. Kicker L7s aint got sh*t on sundown SAs and the SAs are just the medium line and they outperform the L7 in everyway possible.

that box is only 3.14 cubic ft NET so you still have to subtract sub displacement and port displacement. so in reality there should only be 1 12" subwoofer in there because ideally a 12 should be in 2.5 cubic ft or so EACH. so that alone reduces your performance of subwoofer. Your amp puts out 1000rms at 1 ohm, 750@2. so I'm matching you up with subs that your amp will have some decency pushing although i doubt it does rated output. a sub can be 2000 rms but if its in a tiny crappy ported box like those kickers are a properly housed 10" 500rms sub will probably sound better. And the soundqubed subs can take more power if clean, those kickers can't.

Haha **** guys I knew there was a lot more to the car audio world I didn't know about but **** that's crazy...you guys know your stuff.

I'm really intrested and wanna learn more.

If I would to get the single SA-18 how much would a custom box be? and how much harder would it hit than the comp r's?

You'll experience heavenly bliss lol it'll be louder then any regular kicker setup you come across. Hit up @Boomsday ; to get your box built. Make sure you give him your max dimensions and space you are willing to give up. If it does not fit, you can just go down to a 15 and it'll still beat hard as f*kk. For SUV subs will be faced up to the roof, port will be firing at the rear trunk. For port tuning, if you like rap and low low bass, then tune to 30-32 hz, general music listening then 33-35hz anything higher will have less sound quality but get a lot louder on the 40-50 hz slams.

Alright thanks man! For daily driving would you recommend the 18 or 15? Cause I watched a few videos of the 15 on YouTube and it hits so hard

Dude im telling you this right now its effing addiction thatll leave you broke. **** gets expensive real quick in this world. Once your above 1000rms chances are youll need electrical upgrades and 1/0 wire and thats where it gets pricey. But on your sa-18 note yea itll beat harder than any crappy kicker setup. Hit up boomsday likejeffdachef said. Butfirst go out and measure the space your working with. Then go from there because an 18 needs a big *** box. But ive learned cone is king im running the same power as my friend but on a zv4 10 and hes using an fi sp4 18 i have good electrical (my sig) and he doesnt and he still beats way louder than me. So if you can fit an 18 def do it. Or a 15 wont be bad either. But def go custom ported and you wont be dissapointed

That's not true. Almost any sub can take more power if its clean. I'm not the kind to ride any brands nuts but I have 2 silver cvr's 07's wired at 1 ohm in a 4.5 cubic foot box on 1500 rms have been for almost a year now and they do not clip nor bottom out and they was on 1150 for 2 years before that. And dont get the wrong idea I know kicker is far from the best but I got them in a good deal from a trade and can't afford to buy different subs and they do get loud with proper tuning and enclosure . Its more about propper enclosure and power than it is the sub.

Haha yeah i bet man.... But I think I'm gonna get the 15. I don't want something that'll hit too hard and make it not enjoyable which I feel like the 18 will do. Do you think I'll have to upgrade all my wires if I get the 15?
