kicker amp smoking!

so i was driving home from work when all of a sudden my bass cut out. i was 2 streets away from my house so i just turned the music down and figured i'd check it out when i got home. then i started to smell something burning. so i pulled over and popped the trunk and my kicker zx750.1 was smoking.

does anyone know what might have caused this? my gain was about half way up. i'm running two kicker cvr 12's at 2 ohm. the volume was about 48/62 on my pioneer head unit. all connections were fine, and no fuses blew. the amp didn't even go into protect.

i've been running this amp since january. it was in an accident but i took it apart and checked it out and it was fine. just a couple dents in the top. but its been working fine. i recently added the second sub so it was pushing the amp harder at 2 ohms but i don't think that would have caused that much damage. the only thing i can think of is the accident loosened something and the vibrations made it come loose and short something. it also wasn't bolted in because the accident also ripped off the tabs to mount it so it slid. i always checked the wire connections though.

i'm just curious as to why all of a sudden it started smoking without warning. any ideas?

Are you positive the subs are wired to 2 ohms not 1? Your gain seems a bit too high as well. I have the same amp and it does rated power at 1/3 gain, but it could just be a difference in setups. Is your bass boost on?

they are both dual 2 ohm subs. they were individually wired in series for a 4 ohm load and then wired together in parallel to get a 2 ohm final load. bass boost was off on amp and HU. it was really hot so it might have been too hot in the trunk maybe. the sub volume on the HU was on +6 but i made sure it wasn't distorting or anything. might have had the gains higher than i should have but it seemed like it could take that much power.
