im lookin to buy a 15inch kicker cvr

im buying it off a buddy and im not sure if it 2 ohms or 4 ohms

i guess i need to know what kind of amp i would need to buy

or what would be a good amount of watts to push through it

and if i would need a different amount of watts for 2ohm or a different amp for 4 ohms

kinda new at this stuff

its 500 watts rms and 1000 watts peak

any help thanks

Yeah you are going to need to find out the if its 2 or 4 ohm before you can start looking for an amp.

I got an MA audio 300XE that gives 500 watts at 4 ohm up for sale

I used it to power a 12 inch kicker CVR and it worked pretty good. Hit me up if your interested but the sub would need to be 2 ohm for my amp to work out for ya.

so it isnt that hard to make a 4ohm sub

into a 2 ohm sub if the sub has dual voice coils

so what is a good range of power in 2 ohms

for a 15 inch cvr with about 500 rms and 1000 peak

Not exactly

A 4 ohm dual voice coil sub can not be wired to 4 ohms.

what you mean?

its already 4 ohms

so basically im getting a mono amp

and saying if the bad thing is its a 4 ohm sub

then what do i do to get the most power out of the sub

with a lets say 500 watts at 2 ohms

Yes you can add both 4 ohm coils together and get ONE 2 ohm load. IF the sub is a dual 4 ohm you will want an amp that does 500 watts RMS @ 2 ohms. IF it turns out to be a dual 2 ohm voice coil sub your going to need an amp that does 500 RMS @ 2 ohms or you could get a 2 channel amp that does around 200-250 @ 2 ohms per channel. Either way when you get it just post up what ohms it is so we can help you out better..

ok say the sub is dual 4 ohm voice coils

You can wire it to two ohm or 8

If the sub is dual 2 ohm voice coils you can wire the sub to 1 ohm or 4 ohm.

If the CVR you are getting is dual 2 then you want to get an amp that reaches the power you want (around 500 watts)

at 1 or 4 ohm.

If the sub is dual 4 you want to get an amp that reaches 500 watts at

two ohm.

Get it?

You need to use both voice coils, and by using both you either get a 2 ohm or 8 ohm load and you will want to use 2 ohms as it pulls more power out of the amp that way. Ive heard people say you can use one coil but i would never do that or recommend it..
