Kenwood X693 vs Alpine 9887

I write in English I have no idea what RTFM means. I guess us 80's kids just know how to type (we had typing classes, they sucked).
At least the other idiot can feels some relief knowing that his long lost twin is on board.

RTFM = Read The Frucking Manual

The acronym was driven by technical discussions before the web as we know it existed, and was later incorporated into the e-vernacular. BTW, I have wire older than you.

Don't worry I bought a x993 and figured it out in 20 mins w/o a man (ok I had to look once). Screw Alpine their quality has went down 5 years straight. They'd rather cater to the iPod crowd (not sq crowd)

Great. Anyone with a half a brain can do the same with the 9887, which obviously excludes two folks in this thread.

When the last time Alpine made a dead head? What happened to motorized faces? Why don't they support .wav files?
Tell us all a little about SQ, rear fill boy. The internal amp can be turned-off, as if it matters, and 9887 plays CDs. What does a motorized faceplate have to do with a deck's sound quality?

They only support compressed file formats...lame
Why aren't you playing the original media, or an identical transfer?

I'm sorry you think those cds are so awesome recorded at 16bit 44k sample rate. But when you have a studio and record at 24bit 192k it makes a big difference. Also the actual CD player mechanism adds noise. That laser reading your cds makes just as much error as it plays as when you rip a cd. Considering there is a tremendous amount of oversampling and error correction when ripping, Id rather go that way. Going manual face just tells me they're going cheep.

Wait, what? You're saying this as if you're used to reference-level sound, yet you have a system with the resolution of a wet sock. Get a grip.

...or reliability with quicker access.

I'm not sure where any of this is going. It took you a while to understand that a 9887 doesn't need to be "unlocked," as if reading ad copy is so difficult. Now you want to argue SQ, while knowing nothing about it. Clearly, you're just another car audio moron with delusions of (sonic) grandeur and I hope that your next journey into absurdity ends with an equally riveting flourish.

Alright FJF and Raver, I'll speak really slowly. I understand you can adjust the EQ's out of the box, but to be able to adjust JUST THE BASS/TREBLE out of the box, MULTI-EQ MUST BE ENABLED. YOU CANNOT ENABLE IT WITHOUT RUNNING THE IMPRINT. Therefore, the bass/treble (simple settings) are locked out until you run imprint. That's what I was trying to say before you both got your panties into such a twist. As far as the links I added, if you actually read them, you'd see others had the same problem...THEY COULD NOT ACCESS THE SIMPLE BASS/TREBLE CONTROLS. I know the threads dealt with tuning, but there were others in the thread that could not get to the bass/treble controls. That's what I've been saying. Here are 2 more links if you actually care to read them, where people COULD NOT ACCESS THE BASS/TREBLE CONTROLS WITHOUT RUNNING IMPRINT. We could simply clarify and move on...but you'd rather start the juvenile name-calling. I mis-typed in my earlier post when I said "all of the tuning features" are locked, I meant simple bass/treble controls. By the way, I did RTFM. I'm sure you had a harder time getting through it seeing as there were very few pictures.

to the person who pays $500+ for door speakers I pitty you. Go buy some Magnepans and sit on you couch, it'll be a hell of a lot more enjoyable than spending 4k on a car stereo. Where there will always be road noise, wind noise, and very bad acoustics.
