Kenny's rant/fix thread

Sounds like a wire came off a coil and has a direct short to the ground. If it came lose you got to take it out anyways. I know its a pain but that will tell you where to go next if its wired ok.

Take the one out that you seen smoke and check it.

You need to wire it like this to a pair of strapped SD amps. Run the + wire to the master and the - wire to the slave. Both wires go to the + terminal on the amp. You also will need to connect the - terminals together on the amp.

I think this will just save you a huge amount of time and headaches.

*crosses fingers*

He probably read my mind //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif j/k

Hopefully this will work.If so, you're driving out to BFE tonight and doing at least one bassrace run //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif No, seriously. . . . .

BRENT AND JUSTIN FTMFW!

it's working now (i think)

not only did it keep the amps cool, i found another thing wrong that i'm going to fix tomorrow when i'm awake... a buddy who was wiring the amp shaved the power wire to get it to fit in the power hole. only problem, he shaved it so it was about the size of 4 gauge! i'm sure that keeps it a little hot.

i drove around... my old btl was cold as could be, the new one was hot... but i half-assed it for now because tomorrow i'm redoing it all with my buddy tom... with his DMM for the gains //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

all i can say is... loud //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif windshield flex //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif videos tomorrow maybe //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Mountaineer Man AIM'ed me the same thing, except jntar is better with directions //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I'm more of a visual person //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif Explaining things by word isn't my strong point.Bottom line is, problem solved.

Did you have it wired to 0.5 strapped per pair of amps before (0.25 per amp)? It sounded like thats what you had going on with two + and two - per woofer. That would get a little on the hot side.

Jntar's wiring diagram is correct, only ONE + and ONE - coming from the sub to the amp for the series connection //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Sounds like he got you lined out.

Im going to agree with nick here, and say that you have a wire crossed somewhere, and you have a coil out of phase. That would cause all kinds of problems. You need to get a 9v battery and test every set of wires and make sure you have them in phase. A little 9v DC wont hurt anthing.
we use to use a drill battery and test everything before a final wiring //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

drill battery FTW
