Kenny's rant/fix thread

Just got home... put probably 1,000 miles on my car since Thursday.

Anyways... most of you know. We wired everything up today after a HUGE night of working fast (we wanted it to be done by today's show). Jon worked through the night with no sleep, I fell asleep in my driver's seat for a few hours. Anyways, went to the show and smelled coil... bad. Everyone was looking at it and messing with the gains... no change... and eventually faint white smoke came out of the port.

My Sundown amps were VERY hot, which [from what I hear] they're not even supposed to get warm to the touch. If everything is right, they're wired in series to 2 ohms and the amps are strapped, so it's 1 ohm / amp.

I'm thinking about purchasing an o-scope and setting the gains that way... not even sure what to do at this point.

Anyone want me to take pictures of how it's wired up and maybe you can guide me through this shit? I don't want to wait on someone to help, I want to do it myself.

get a dmm, measure what your subs are wired to just to be on the safe side (speaker wire at the amps, incase you have a grounded speaker wire somewhere) also check polarity.

Also check input voltage at the amps while your at it.

If that doesn't pan out, verify you have the amps strapped correctly. If you are really seeing 1ohm per amp and your gains are all the way down you have the amps strapped incorrectly or you have voltage issues.

All else fails contact sundown...they make em, your sponsored, they should help you.

I wish you were closer to me and Matrxx.

How do I check that BASSMEKANIK?

BTW guys, I'm DEATHLY afraid of electric... that's why at shows (or not at shows) I have someone else touch my amps.

I just pulled the amp rack out a little and the power and ground flew out of one amp... so I'm waiting for my buddy to come by in a few and take everything out and rewire.

Dood, not trying to be a dick...but what are you going to do if your at a show and don't have somebody to do everything for you?!?

Gotta start getting your hands dirty man, its the only way to learn and be confident about what your doing.

Kenny,

You can get them hot eventually. How long did you play them? If it was for a very short time only then I would look at your setup. Also, how is ventilation around the amps?

I never got a chance to call you today, things are very busy for me around the holidy.
