keep blowing fuses

I am pretty new to car audio but I was given an amp that seems pretty old and doesnt say the wattage and a kicker sub. After me and my friend put it in (he says he has a lot of experience in car audio) it will not keep from blowing a fuse. Do you guys have any idea why it blows every fuse in it. I have tried 40 amp fuses. Thanks

What kind of amp is it?

What ohm load is the sub wired to?

When does the fuse blow? Does it blow after everything has already been put together and you fire up the amp or does it blow when you try to plug it in...

I would guess it's a wiring error. Or too small of a fuse.
