Keep blowing a sub

So im running 2 PG Rsd12's off of a PG v80001. Today, I blew one of them for the third time. the first time i payed the recone fee and got new subs put in but now that it's happened again im hessitant to keep throwing money at it. I don't understand why why its blowing because the amp puts out 800x1 rms and the subs can handle up to 500 each. Right now im thinking that i should buy new subs that are better matched with my amp. what do you guys think?

I think you need to learn to set gains properly. A amp than put out 800 watts cleanly can put out up to 1600 watts clipped, that's why your woofers are dying. If you have bass boost up turn it off.

I agree, to a degree. A cliped signal can be detramental to your sub...but it wont blow it. Heat is what killz subs. And yah whats your box size and tuning at? How do you play your music? Loud, and for long periods of time? Does nething sound too loud/distorted? Too big of a box will blow a sub as well.

Im new to the car audio stuff so im can't quite answer all your questions, the box is sealed and tuned to around 30hz im not sure of the cu. ft. I do have the gain set to about 6db right now, so ill turn that down. And right before it died i didn't hear any distortion or anything.

Those subs look like they are rated at 350RMS each... although you might not be overpowering them by much your tastes in music and it's duty cycle, the length of time you listen, and yes how hard you clip the amp, all come into play...

I'd also add that Pheonix Gold has really gone to shit...

I think it's time to start looking for new subs...

Of course it does...but not enough by itself to kill it. Its all the extra power that goes along with clipping that puts that nail in the coffin.
A clipped amplifier will have increased output. More power means more heat. More heat means more chance to blow a speaker. So... clipping -> more power -> more heat -> more chance to blow sub. So when someone skips two steps and goes right from clipping can lead to a blown sub, why do you disagree and then argue semantics? If you agree more power means more heat, and you agree heat kills speakers, I fail to understand your over all point in disagreeing with t3mpest.

IF it's sealed then it's not tuned to 30 hz. Just so u kno tuning is when it's ported. Whats the external dimensions of the box we can figure out cubes that way, and is it a shared or does each sub have it's own chamber.

No.

I was wondering if someone was going to say something about that lol.
