K I'm bored of my 13w6v2 already...

So I bought a JL 13w6v2 and put it in a custom sealed box built to JL specs. But I decided that I don't think I'm the SQ guy I thought I was lol.

I recently purchased an Alpine MRP-M850 from the classifieds and have it in my car now powering the W6

I'm looking to get 1 sub, either a 12 or a 15 that can hit the lows better then the 13w6v2 but be as close to the SQ as the w6 as possible..

Or do you guys think I should keep the w6 and throw it in a nice ported box.

My main goal is to get louder but at the same time I want to retain most of the quality, and play the lows a little better..

I was thinking maybe an Alpine Type-X or an Fi Q, but I don't know if that M850 would be able to push them enough

I'm looking at this at a financial aspect too, one of my problems is I would like to be louder, but in order to do that I'd have to spend another 100+ on a ported box, and if I want to get even louder, I would have to get another 13w6, and thats a lot of $$$.

I already have somebody interested in buying the sub, and I'll get close to what I paid for it.

What would you guys recommend?

i recomend you buy my jl12w7. its loud as sh!t, great soung quality and you can keep your jl brand going

See I'm not sure if I want to keep the JL brand going because it really is a lot of money, yeah the 12w7 is good, but I know for half the price I can get something just as good, if not better.

I have a 13W6v2 in a custom ported enclosure built to JL spec running off of a 500/1. It sounds great, and is plenty loud (for my tastes.) I haven't metered it, but based off of another Set-up I had, I'd say it's easily in the 120's. For one SQ sub on 500 watts, that's pretty **** good to me. Bass tracks turned to near full volume rattle the whole car and trunk, and it's heavily dynamatted. All EQ settings are at 0, and the gain on the amp is at about 60%.

EDIT: The enclosure is a slightly modded version of their standard ported box. Their standards are slot ported. Due to volume constraints in my trunk and for aesthetics, we went dual square ported. The net internal volume, after port and speaker displacement was 1.875ft3 w/ 2 square ports measuring 6.5"h x 2"w x 27.625"l. I can honestly say this enclosure is what makes my W6 sound the way it does. Before this sub, I had an S-10 Blazer with two W3v2 on a 500/1. Each one was in a genaric (not built to JL spec) ported enclosure and they slammed. This single sub is close to their output. My set-up in that blazer metered at 144, mic on the front passanger floor board.

While the single 13W6 doesn't feel as intense, It's a different vehicle, and I have the gains and EQ's set-up way different. With the blazer, the EQ's were maxed on the head unit and amp, and gain turned up more than it should to get every ounce of SPL for the meter run. As I stated, this set-up is tame. I don't plan on metering it. It's for daily driving, and the occasional bass CD pounding. But it get's pretty lound never the less. Like I said I'm willing to bet if I left everything the way it is and cranked up the volume I'd hit in the 120's.

That is a great looking setup, I just feel that if I put it in a ported box, that it will defeat the purpose of me spending all this money on a SQ sub, when I can spend over 100$ less, and get the same amount, and possibly more output...

Uhh... the more ports, the more space needed... so, either your box is tuned wrong or you were mis-informed.

And go with ported box OP. You might enjoy the output more. A sub is only as good as the enclosure it's put in.

not true

you can build a box with a 20x10 port and the length of that one port would be the same as if you built a box with 2 10x10 ports
