Just wanted to share that CDT's need power

The guy I got mine from told me early on that they would. I found out going from 100 - 130 - 250 now. Now they are playing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif I don't know how much more they can take but my 5.25's are screaming now.

dang that is alot, id say push em 100 first then move up...can nevr be to careful..and I dont like to have to buy new stuff because of silly mistakes

eh, i'm sure the Iridiums don't need much power to get them going. i think rms is 100, so just give it 100. the Iridiums are very warm sounding speakers.

The CDT's called for 160-180 RMS but play really well with 250.

Just looked and the Iridiums say 100 RMS. I think my 4-channel KX800.4 might be able to go that low. If not the only other option I have is the KX550.2 I just took out of the car that will give 205W. Yeah the cdts are hungry. I'm powering my HD62's with a ED 9.2X amp. 200wRMS per side i love em all my friends are like wow they sound crazy

The other two I would like to try at some point are the Focal Utopias and the Boston Z-6's. I listened to the Boston Z-6's at Tweeter and they were awesome. Don't they take like 500W per though? I would take one hell of an amp!

IMO 200 even 250rms on the HD set is a waste. They break up like mad on that much power. Mot to mention to compensate for the power you have to constantly fiddle with the high-pass so they dont bottom out and or distort like crazy.

150 per side is right about where I would run them (the 6.5 set) 100-125 for the 5.25. TRUST me, get a better set of comps, or even mids for that matter and you will wonder why you ever touched the HDs.

I must have gotten lucky then. Every increase in power they flat out played better and cleaner. Now I can crank them until it feels like my ears would normally bleed but.... they aren't harsh so I can listen to them at a high level all the time. Wish you were here to hear them. I know the HD set pretty well. Active and passive with the 560 x-overs. I guess I have just found better things I like. I do still like the 1" silks in the set however.

I have an Orion 225hcca bridged into each side of my Eurosports. Not sure how much power I might be able to push to them, but I can pretty much guarantee that with music they rarely actually see more than 50W. Sound great with that ammount of power. The key is not so much the speakers, it's that you have more amp power than you are using and the amp isn't breaking a sweat, plenty of headroom and minimal distortion.

So this is why I was thinking just use the 550 in the truck but don't tap it all. It will be there if needed.

Which of those would show off the CDT's best? It was sheer bliss this morning driving to work with it cranked up.

Love my cdt's.. ef-61 rated at 130rms. I'm powering them with a memphis st-200 (100x2). Not nearly enough power I suppose .. but enough to get me by. Problem comes when I start playing with the high frequency adjustments on the head unit .. putting the amp into protection mode. I assume the cdts are sending me the message to feed them more? I'd really like them to get louder too.

Yeah, I gave mine 250w to each side and it sounded really good. No problems with overpowering either.
