Just shy of 500$ budget for Amp/Subs

And no idea what to get, the ish will be coming from Amazon since I have ~115$ in gift certificates.

Need honest opinions and reasons for opinions, such as: "Alpine type r 1222D pair with two Alpine MRP-M500 amps because I've been running this setup for years and never had a fuse blow, no shorts, never went into protection."

I'm new to the car-audio-enthusiasm, but am eager to learn the difference between what's good and what will waste my time and money.

its pretty easy building your own box...just get the diminsions...and buy your wood at Lowes then tip the guy an extra $20 that you get to do your cuts at the big panel saw...so he will be careful and get them right..if not they can be an inch or so off ...because they in a hurry to get back to the break room and eat donuts....after you get the wood cut its as simple as putting a childs puzzle together and you have a nice custom box

Daily Driver. No competition grade, basically want a system that will last, and perform amazingly.

What I want from this system is to learn without the agonizing fear of breaking something (blow an amp up, blow out subs, etc..)

Theres a difference though, do you like that ground shaking bass? or do you listen to more rock and want some tighter response? What size subs were you thinking about getting? so many more answers are needed.

And so many more answers will be given: I listen to Rap/hip hop/ R&B/ Jazz. Ground shaking bass is what I'm looking for, and I have 2 12's in a badly sealed box currently, but I'm sure my trunk is big enough for two 15s.

Idk if I'd be able to find subs for those amps to push with $ left over from buying those AP 1500's

what kind of vehicle do you have? You're going to want a ported box for that. If space is limited you'd be very pleased with a few good 12's that can handle some power.

I'd try to find a sa12 on here or something along those lines and find an amp on here thats good for about 1500-2k and throw it in a ported box and call it a day. Maybe even the sa15 or equivalent.

I'm guessing these speakers are under-rated?

Why just a single 12 though? wouldn't a pair sound better? or is it all in the wiring?

A pair would be great. I was just looking at your budget. 2 of those @ 400 that leaves 100 for your amp. Not going to find an amp for 100 bucks to push both of them.
