Just heard my buddy's L7's...

Well I have heard L7's oler model, and yesturday my friend was getting his stuff installed at circuit city, so today I finally got to hear what kind of SPL/SQ these things put out. The amp was a mtx 8100D, and if you all saw my post he had them "jump" the voice coils so he got a 2.5 ohm load, so about 715 watts per subs (what they said). There in a 1.0 cu ft sealed prefab box. So he opens his trunk and i see them, they look nice and dont have a bad xmax, but then he turned it up and u could hear them bottoming out, they got loud, but he went to far. So I get into the car and he doesnt know really when to stop on the volume so you can hear the sub bottoming out at not even that much volume. When he turned to what I thought was a good level they still didnt impress me. You all know I've got 2 K's sealed, and I thought mine could compare. Also, mine sound some much "richer" i guess the word is. His has very little SQ, and I dont think they hit THAT hard. I really think that my K's would take them out overall.

L7- SPL>4/5 K- SPL>3.5/5

L7- SQ>2/5 K- SQ> 5/5

Overall, I think the box is very wrong for the L7's, and I'm not impressed with them. Dont get me wrong, very nice subs, but they look better than they perform. All in my opinion here, not hatin' on anyone. And IM SURE OF THIS...

I am not a fan of l7's either, but in their defense, that 1.0 prefab is killing them -- your "all in the install" comment is soooo much more true than so many people think

ok what the hell is he doing putting an l7 in a sealed box...why did you put yours in a sealed enclosure...not enough space....well i can gaurantee you if you put those edks in a ported box tuned to like 35 or so you would still have excellent sq..and the spl will kick *** compared to the sealed..

What size were the L7's?

I have a friend w/ 3 L7 15"s w/ 3 Kicker 1200.1s in the back of a Tahoe, and it will rip your head off (IMO). But he has enough airspace per sub sealed.

I also have a friend w/ 2 15" L7 in the back of a 3000GT, and those slam too. But they are choked for air w/ 1.5 ft^3 of space. he also has a JBL 1200.1's on each sub..

In case everyone is wondering.. The only good installer around here is a Kicker dealer, and i live "in the sticks", so getting something other than Alpine, Kicker, or Fosgate is kinda a pain in the @ss.

I've never heard a pair of K's, but if they compare to the L7's i've heard they must be fairly loud.

why did your friend buy 3 of those kickers amps....and if he has a tahoe why didnt he go ported...or did his dady just come home one day with it already done...

Nobody in my area realizes the benefits of a Ported Box. Everyone just runs a sealed box, mostly to save space.

And My fiend w/ the Tahoe actually paid for it all by himself. You'll be suprised what bussing tables + barbacking will get in your pocket.

But.... He is rich, and his parents do pay for his car and his insurance.

The 3 amps is just to power the subs to potential, and because it looks sick on his amp rack.

not to bash ported too much, because I am currently running a ported box, but people on this forum are VERY bias towards them. There are obviously perks to both sealed and ported, saveing space is often a conern. But i see enough compeition vehciles useing sealed enclosures where space is [relativley] no issue, which simply brings me to the point that both have their applications, there is a different sound to each. I do think that those L7's where choking for air (as someone put it-i like that phrase) in the 1 cu ft prefab.

yeh, i bus tables, make around 9 bucks an hour, and I just start @ age of 16, so its not bad. Anyway, could that bottoming out be because they arnt broken in yet? God, it sounded like crap when he tried to get real loud. I now cheerish my K's and have more respect for them.

well I know circuit city isnt full of car audio guru's. I overlooked them installing and I mean its not like they screwed anything up. I talke to the guy and he said just to apply and they'll give me a call about working in their road house (installing area). Would be a bad job probaly, get to do what i like... So i dont see the problem with them, but the closer circuit city to me is crap, full of guys that are ghetto thugs and dont care about sh*t, so i guess thats where they get their reputation?
