Just got quoted 3 days and $1900 for install

Xtreme Car Audio in Mount Prospect, IL.
The only shop that i would recommend is ABT electronics. They do quality work.

their located in Glenview.

Sounds like a fairly standard install, if my garage was not full, i would knock it out for you for far less.

It shoudln't take nearly 50 hours to install comps, deaden the doors, make / carpet a box, run wires, and... well, that's it.It took me 43 hours running wire/rca, doing the big 3, installing amps / fabricating amp stands, designing / building a 3.5 cubed ported box, installing said box, tuning amps.

And that's by myself. And I'm no professional and I had nothing but wire strippers, a flats head and phillips head screwdriver, table saw + clamp & glue, and I borrowed my Dad's air saw to cut the holes...

I expect a lot quicker install from a shop. But, odds are, they're gunna half *** the install even though they're charging a lot. Because, most shops have this mentality that once the car is out of their shop, it's not their worry. Most shops (notice most, not all) have little to no integrity. I've seen a few stories where the shop apologized, and reimbursed the person and re-did the install. But there's a plethora of stories where the shop told the person to fuck off, and it wasn't their problem.

And that's why local shops are going under. Over-pricing for shoddy work.

Yes. It's not. But why would it take 3 days to do a normal install by professional installers? They should be able to run the wires, install comps and deaden the car with in a day (8 hours).
Local shops are going under because of everyone that buys equipment over the internet. and as was mentioned everyone has a "friend" that can do the install cheaper.

Its probably not going to take 50hrs to get that done. Like I said, shops that have people who come in off the street with their own equipment are going to charge more than if the equipment was purchased threw them. If this install is done properly neatly running wires& securing them, not just tucking them under carpet, fully deadening the doors using a heat gun, roller tool it seems like it would be worth the money.

If this shop operates anything like shops I have worked at, every piece of that equipment has to be tested which also takes time. I've seen sooo much stuff come in to be installed that doesn't even work. If it is not tested and installed only to find out that it doesn't work the customer is now going to blame the shop saying that they somehow fvcked up the installation.

I may seem like i'm rambling about stupid shit but I'm just so sick of hearing everyones opinions about shops over charging and what not. Put yourself in their shoes, gotta make money some how.

x2 and wat type of car was it i never saw that posted

Mike's Chop Shop is just the name I made up after cutting out the rear deck on BigJoker's Caddy one night. I don't do hack work, but I'm not afraid to cut/fabricate when it needs to be done as I've built 3 drag cars from the ground up, so I have some skills...
i had a kia and when i picked up he gave me keys to a 2008 tahoe //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif . no honestly he does amazing work

Take it up to Mike's Chop Shop up near Great America. Not really a shop, just a fellow enthusiast . If you are willing to help out you could save yourself a lot of money and learn a little as well.
Only shop I would trust with that install is M&K Electronics. That's where I got that amp from. They are high as hell, but they do great work. Hopefully they weren't the shop that quoted you 1900.

You sure you want to tear that car down?
agreed.

P.S. he loves Harolds Chicken

**** dude I went to a place here in columbus, ohio and they gave me a quote for $350 plus the cost of the box, to install a 4 channel amp, head unit, a monoblock amp, 6x9's, front component system and 2 subs.
What place did this?!? I'm in Columbus and will be needing a new install soon...

Daym, one of my friends, a MECP installer, quoted another friend $200 to do an install on his 350z at my house. He said if I don't help him, he can do the whole car in 8 hours by himself. He said that if I help him, he will be done after lunch! I have this bad feeling that he is going to ask me to deaden the doors while he does the rest of the install.......

dont have them deaden, its a pain in the *** but anyone can do it, and dont have them big 3, you can do it

then again, dont have them do anything except maybe build a box

its all much simpler than you think

It should not take 3 days to do that install.

My other installer and I did his 04 IS300 where we cut out the rear deck for a sub, deadened the front doors, comps, rears, JL Summer/Clean Sweep, Amp Rack, run wires, tune CS/amps, and mount CS knobs.

This took both of us about 8 hours but we were also working on customers cars at the same time. We are both Master Certified but the job wasn't difficult at all.

As for the labor rate they should not need 3 installers and if they do it should not take three days. lets say AT MOST 8 hours with two installers @ 80/hr is $1280.

At my shop I would charge 500 depending on the car, probably closer to 600.

ABT will only do the install if you purchase the equipment there.

When are the local B&M's gonna learn they need to shift their business plan from product sales, to labor specialists? Idiots think they can fight the internet by refusing to do an install without selling the product? They wont stay in business long with that attitude.

What kind of car is it? Idk if I would trust a place called mike's chop shop might drop it off and never see your baby again:D. But seriously just read up on the forum there's a lot alot alot of helpful threads on here. You could do your whole project your self just have someone build your box for you a nice custom one shouldn't cost you more then 200 bucks and instal that shit. Your setup doesn't sound to hard to do just depends on how much experience you have w/ useing tools and basic car stuff. Plus you get the knowledge and you save a crap load of money.
Dude, you don't know Mike's Chop Shop. Look up mlstrass on here. See some of the work he's done. That box JBizzle was or is selling was made by him. Like I said, it's just a local guy that makes boxes. He can help with your install. But with him, it would be better if you help him out and learn in the process.

Heated garage too. Just bring something to grill, a willingness to help out and some good conversation. Before you leave there, more than likely everything but the box will be done.
