Just got quoted 3 days and $1900 for install

Well my boy had a shop install a deck, run all wires changed front speakers and installed amps and subs for $150 with his own equipment and that was with them providing the harness and kit for the stereo in an 04 impala and it only took an hour and a half because 3 guys were working on it at once

It took me only 5 hours to install a deck, change all for speakers, run all the wiring, install and amp and sub in my girlfriend on a sunday afternoon by myself im my g/f's Santa fe not to mention installed the mic for her bluetooth headunit

It doesn't matter HOW the shop breaks down the cost, but a "professional" installer should be able to knock something like this out in a full day or a little more. I've done similar work in my 1 car garage working 3 or 4 evenings after work for 2-3hr blocks with way less than ideal conditions/tools.

Even at 20 hours which is a lot more than what should be needed the customer's paying $95/hr.

That's an experienced design engineer's money, not "Hey, put some tunes in my car" money.

If you run a shop and this sounds justifiable to you I would say you need to get your costs down or the market will do what it does, and you will go away.

Hopefully, in this particular case the shop quoting $1900 was just SUPER busy, and shot 200% or 300% more than it was worth because they really didn't need the extra work. Given the season, that makes sense to me.

Bose Fx45 doesnt need a cleensweep its a clean non molested signal going into the factory amp you just need to tap before the factory amp, no need to waste money on a cleansweep honestly

I already have it(bought it from a member here at a great price) and it has the aux in which I will need to hook up my ipod. Are you sure it's not necessary? I heard Bose eq's the shit out of their cheap *** speakers to get the sound they do. I could be wrong though.

I would just use it anyway, it will give you a better signal than regular HI-Levels, and you get the AUX in. Also BOSE systems usually are EQ'd in some way. Plus, you get a nifty little knob you get to mount somewhere!

gives u aux in which is nice. but no u dont need it the EQin is done from the bose amp. either way doesnt matter was just saying not necessary

u do realize with cleansweep u are supposed to do all volume controls from the master cleansweep volume knob but being that your radio has a flat output it shoudlnt really matter

not to knock but alot of installers will say cleansweep right off the bat especially when they hear bose

The clean sweep volume knob is only for the aux. I can still use my radio/steering wheel control for everything else. It explains that here: http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_cleansweep_pages.php?page_id=211

Most shops around here would charge at least 95/hr. Hell the shop I worked at was $130 for custom work or if someone brought their own equipment.

not true it is desgined as a master volume knob, because on many cars where u have an eqaulized output from headunit (not ur car) you have to leave the headunit at the same volume and control it all from the master volume knob on cleansweep because changing the headunit volume will change the EQ curve output

in an application like urs with a flat output then it wouldnt matter

With a $100k median income it stands to reason why a shop in that area might survive.

The one suburb of KC I know of where several current and former Royals/Chiefs live is only $102k.

In the real world, where most of us live, $1000 for some basic install work isn't an option.

The only shop that i would recommend is ABT electronics. They do quality work.
their located in Glenview.

Sounds like a fairly standard install, if my garage was not full, i would knock it out for you for far less.
don't take your car to him.

Take it to Mlstrass.
