Just got a ticket

just got my first speeding ticket last night. I was on my way home and my friends were in the car in front of my and I wasn't really paying attention. Cop comes out of no where and hit the lights. Comes up to the window and says "You guys going to a fire cause you were haulin a$$", asks were I was going (home) and takes my licence. By then I was pretty sure I was getting a ticket, he looked fresh out of the academy and looked like he couldn't wait to try out the line about a fire.

Finally comes back to my car says he clocked me at 60 in a 35(I know I was going 70 earlier) and that I didn't use my turn signal when I turned onto the road(he was a sneaky SOB to be able to see me turn onto the road and also clock me).

He tells me that he gonna cut be a huge break and write me up for 45 in the 35.

He then gives me a safety lecture and says "tell your friends(the guys I was following) to slow the Fu(k down", they didn't even get pulled over.

I think in WA I can pay $150 and if I don't get in ticket in the next year it never goes on my record. If the insurance finds out then I'm screwed so I just want it off the record and don't care about the fine.

Also if I took it to court and tried to make a deal could the cop then say he actually caught me doing 60?

just pay it, taking it to court will most likely do nothing. Especialy if he radared you, u will just be looking at more fees. And youre lucky he cut ur speed down, 20 or 25 over is cali is reckless //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

By writing you just 10 over, he might have already kept it off your insurance record. In many places, they don't report to insurance if it's 10 over or less.

He did you a huge favor. Take a lesson from it... he wasn't being sneaky, he was doing his job. You were the one in the wrong (as you admitted), so just be glad he had a little compassion on you. A few bucks is all it'll cost you.

X2 on what he said ^^^ Slow down on roads that have speed limits of 35. usually means that the local gov't deems it high traffic for pedestrians etc.

Very lucky that he cut it down, he did you a huge favor.

I hate fresh out of the academy cops in general. I'll take an old man cop any day, they are so much more sick of being a pain in everyone's ***. Half of them will forget what you did wrong if you chat it up with them for a bit.

I'll admit I was definitely an idiot and had no business going that fast. But yeah any ticket here goes to insurance. I'm not going to challenge it in court, just going to look into getting it deffered. I'm more than willing to pay a fine just can't let it get on my record cause insurance rapes you.

So just show up in court, ask the judge if you can plead nolo contendere and pay the fines and court costs and get it deferred. They usually don't have a problem with that when it's a first offense. At least you admit it. The judge usually (IME) respects honesty and maturity more than anything.

if you are going to break the law, do it logically or dont do it at all, what im trying to get at is although I wouldnt encourage breaking the law in the first place, i recommend getting a good radar detector with 360 capabilities at least then you might get away with it...i would just pay the ticket, it'd be a nice F*ck you to the cop if you took it to court, he did let you off easily...

about being logical, I am. I would never get a radar detector. If I had a detector I would let my guard down. I drive somewhat fast most of the time and have never had a problem. I make sure to always be aware of who/whats around me all the time. I pay more attention to where I'm going than probably most anyone.

What happened here was my friend sped up on a straight stretch and after he got a good distance in front I floored it for a couple seconds to catch up, when I caught up I glanced down and it said around 70mph. We both slowed down but the cop already saw me, I'm still kicking my self for just stepping on it and not paying attention at all because I never noticed the cop until his lights came on. Had I been driving normally and not screwing around I would have been fine.

I'm going to do whatever to dodge insurance, and take it as a lesson learned. I'll definitely slow down though.

I live in Washington too, and I belive anything 15 over you get your license suspended for 6 months.

So yeah, he cut you a break.

Don't be a idiot and speed that fast next time. Simple as that.
