Just got a diagnosis for our son.

Sorry to hear that man.

One serious word of advice: Keep him off any foods with MSG (monosodiumglutimate)

That stuff is known to increase the effects of autism tenfold.

Research it...

Good luck

just dont put him in special ed. leave him in regular classes. studies show, they grow up better if they are around "regular" kids. dont listen to what the school says if they say differant.

a lot of good hearted replies so far but of course advice from CA only can go so far.

You have a challenging situation. All cases are different but you obviously love your son and will program your parenting to comprehensively address his needs to the best of your abilities. Good luck my friend. I have worked with Asperger patients and families in the past. I feel for you.

my son is Autistic (7 years old)...we blaime it on the Imunization Shots when

he was a baby....

he was perfectly happy and normal untill that first shot then he got a dull lost

look to him and the smile went away

anyways we have a tutor (special needs worker ) that stays with him in school

(he is in a normal school) and he is adjusting well...we find that being around

other kids helps him in a big way..his speach is getting really good and his smile

is back...a very happy kid but he still has the normal Autistic freak out once in a

while..he is also a friggin genius with anything electrical..

this kid could re wire a TV

it's not a bad thing....although it can cause stress ..no matter how frustrated

you are with him at times keep your cool and try to keep a good mood around him

I noticed that my son absorbs what ever mood I am in at the time

Jenny Mcarthy has some really good books on Autizm..I suggest reading them

and no matter what any doctor says DO NOT MEDICATE.....

nothing good ever comes from medicating a learning mind....there is no substitution

for hands on help and care...emotional help (friendship) towards him will do

better than any pill

feel free to contact me and ask anything on the subject....I know from personall

experience how frustrating it really can be

get him in to car audio he would probity make a great installer some day.

and a heartfelt im so sory goes to the op .having kids is tough and it even tougher when they have medical problems my son is adha with bipolar disorder

I am surprised at the number of positive comments.
A. CA is usually a little softer when it is about the children.

B. BB hasn't logged in yet.

My advice is to hit the flash cards hard and early. Get him really focusing on counting and numbers. Then for his 18th birthday take him to the vegas blackjack tables to earn his College Tuition.

I will wish the best for him and your family.

i know how u feel my lil brother grew up with slight autism, bi polar and a range of a few other things. just takes good family support and patience and they do pretty good. hes graduating this yr and already accepted into college. just keep the support and love there:)
