aargh...

ok..so this morning, my 12" IDMAX v3. suddenly stops working. I check the amp fuse and it is blown. I replace it and it blows again, and again....

I have a PPI PC2200 amp. It's bridged to power my 12" IDMAX at 800 watts by 1 at 4 ohm. Obviously, my DVC sub a 2 ohm wired in parallel for a 4 ohm load.

Now, I run out of fuses and grab some 80 amp AWG fuse. I was running 60 amp fuse.

So, I think it could be the new sub. I remove the speaker but the fuse still blows (I'm now using 80 amp fuses)

I further dig into the connections and notice that the RCA cables coming from the receiver are somewhat touching. I seperate them a little bit.

I start the car, but to my surprise the fuse does not blow but I see smoke come out of the amp.

AARGH!! The amp is fried, i open it up and several of the transistors are burnt.

Any one know how this could have happened?

I've had no problems with the system in the 4 years I've owned it. I was running an IDMAX V2 sub as of last week and upgraded to a V3 recently........

were u running 800 to the previous sub
yes, the previous sub is almost an exact replica of the new V3 IDMAX I got. Dimensions, power handling, etc.

Basically, I just removed the old sub, and put the new one in...I did not touch anything else. I verfied my wiring 3x as well. (the new sub had been working flawlessly for about a week now)

check the coils.....
the v3 may have a different config than the v2. just a guess.

you may have wired a 1ohm load on accident!

yeah i thought about that, but i've had about 15 hours on the new sub already..wouldn't it have caused a problem sooner?

(also..i meant to say sub was wired in series to produce a 4 ohm load. it's a 2ohm DVC sub
