Well I've been looking around for comps for awhile and was having a hard time coming to a decision... but in my true impulsive style, I found out that a local shop was selling Zapco's and that these were on sale... Not a fantastic deal... $175... however it would have been more to order the same set from Woofersetc.com once shipping to Alaska came in to play. While I hadn't thought about getting Zapcos previously, I have heard good things in general (I know the speakers are actually made by an Italian manufacterer) and I am optimistic they will sound much better than the crap Hifonics ZXi comps I have installed currently. Would appreciate any thoughts on the set though, and as soon as I have them installed will submit my opinions upon listening. Oh and of course I took a few pics!

Lol holding one of the Zapco woofers in one hand and the Hifonics in the other... The higher quality is very apparant. I need to get some mdf to make a baffle for them, however... They actually don't fit in the door, despite being the "same" size as my previous set. A little delayed gratification lol

Well a little update here... got the drivers side in now... It took a bit of work due to needing spacers to make the mid actually fit and then had to cut the grill thats part of the door panel away because the speaker was sticking out too far... so about a half hour with the dremel later the hole is cut and while it looks a little rough right now, I can go back later and clean it up... of course I had to take a quick listen and it sounds amazingly better than my old comps... There was definitely a gap between my sub and my comps before that was very noticable, at least to me, and was on my mind everytime I was in my truck. The new comps however blend nicely with alot more midbass to meet up with the sub. I have also realized I need lots more deadening in more doors... Pics later when its done

Yea I'm real curious to see how they sound once you have them installed and tuned. I was looking into getting them, but decided to go with my ID CTX's instead. I'm very happy with my decision, but still curious.

Finally finished this up! The install was put on hold initially when one of the crossovers had a bad tweeter output on it. The local shop just pulled out a new one from a different set, however by the time I was able to get down there I was leaving town later that day to visit the folks. Was there a week, but now that I'm back it was high on my list of priorities haha... The cutting of the door panel went smoother the second time of course, and it looks alot nicer. However nice it looks, the sound is MUCH better... I know this is very subjective as I havent heard alot of setups but the sound is incredible from what I am used to.

I finally hear the difference between CD quality tracks and MP3s... With a regular CD in I hear things I never heard previously... For example on a track from an older Jack Johnson CD I used to hear a vague higher pitched instrument in the backround... now I realize they're steel drums! I also didn't realize that higher frequencies should have impact as well... like the plucking of a guitar string has a feel to it as well rather than just a sound. The resonance it makes it so familiar because its the same feeling (or very close to) as when you're listening to someone play live in front of you. The changing of chords is much more noticable and realistic... And drums! Lol the new midbass actually lets me enjoy and feel drums... I tried a few different CDs... Most of the commercial CDs I own are rock, which sounded great as well... each instrument was much more distinct and the music sounded... well musical, as opposed to alot of sound, some bass, and vocals. Vocals sound great as well lol... theres a texture to voices that wasn't there before.

Overall I'm very pleased and I know they'll only sound better as I'm able to deaden and seal my doors... just don't have the money as of yet... I really wish I could hear some other comp sets in this price range so I could be more objective about them... Which would perhaps make this a more useful review lol, but I feel my $175 was well spent...

those look nice man. I am about to get a set of the red reference ones here in a few weeks.
you will be happy with the speakers. they have a nice tone to them. the are bright but not harsh, warm but have a lot of definition.

if you are interested in a set of blues (they sound a lot better hence the SQ designation, get loud as well) then i will make you a great deal on a set of 5.25" blue set. new tweets.

i had a set of iforce coaxs in the rear of my silverado. liked them for rears. got loud, sounded good. ran a set of blues up front. now i just run a set of competitions up front in my new car.

as you deaden the doors, they will get a lot more midbass, a lot more vocal depth, and a lot more accurate. definitely a huge step and a must do.

How conservative is Zapco or rather ESB I should say on their RMS ratings? Can they usually take additional power well or should I try to stick to the rated power? I ask because I was thinking of bridging my zx350.4 and giving a bit more power to them... I would take it easy on the gains as I doubt they can take 175 wrms a side, but I could always be wrong... happens from time to time //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

take it easy on the gains, and be sure to never clip the signal from the deck. i would really recommend using a tone generator and dmm to set the gains properly by usings ohms law. the power itself wont kill the speakers, but the bad signal with that much power behind them is a recipe for disaster. so be very careful with distortion and clipping.

i dont know much about the iforce comps other than how they sound. i am running a c2k 6.0 on my competition set up front though, but those are a lot beefier than even the reference seperates.

Yeah I figured I would have a better chance of not clipping the signal by having more power available than I intend on using... And I was planning on using the dmm to set it, just meant not trying to get the full 175 wrms to each side... just maybe 100-110? They're rated at 80 wrms and the zx350.4 does 60x4@4 or 175x2@4 ohm bridged. But as I'm learning the amount of power a driver can take and an amp can give them is a very fluid concept that doesnt lend itself well to strict ratings.

EDIT: I knew you were running different a line of comps, but from the same manufacterer... So I guess I meant to ask how much power you're feeding them in relation to what they're rated for.
