ok, so i installed my herc. today with my two type Rs. Let me just say this: my Type Rs were dissapointed, lol. As soon i turned up the volume, i automatically smelled the voice coils. My immediate response was "fukkk". But i checked my ohmload at the amp, and it showed the usual, 1.4-1.5 ohms. BTW, It's a nasty smell. Gains are set between 1/2 and 3/4. Bass EQ set at the minimum(30hz). Bass Boost off. Bass is at -7, BBE is off. Now, that i gave you the low-down, i need some help.

My amp shows a clipping signal when volume is at 34-35. Is it because the HU clips at 35? Should i do the gains Setup at level 32 instead of 35.? I know the tutorial says 3/4, but i wanna use my HU to the fullest or close to the fullest.

The subs don't smell anymore. It just smelled like that when i first powered my amp.

I heard from several people that it's not an accurate way to setup the gains because it does not cover everone's goals and personal tastes. But i do watch out for my gains. The hercules has this diagnostic system where the Overload light will blink when the amp starts clipping. And I've been very cautious about that. A matter of fact, i had my backseat removed the whole day, so i can keep an eye on my amp.

About the Gains Tutorial, when i divide RMS by ohm, then SQRT. Should i divide the 2000RMS by 1ohm, or 1.4 (after boxrise) for better accuracy? I should set it at 37.8 volts, correct?

Its not accurate as far as what?

Its accurate if you want to keep your shit from clipping, and then dying.

I don't think it was accurate. This is how i did it - i played a 50hz test tone while i was using the DMM. it read 44.1.the hercules has a diagnostic system where the light will blink when it experiences clipping. While the 50hz tone was playing, it never blinked. But when i hooked up my subs and played a song (Ridin Rims by Franchise Boyz), the light on the amp starts blinking when it hits really hard. Is this normal, or is it not suppose to be blinking period? The gains is set the same way how i set the amp in the first place (between 1/2 and 3/4, thats where 44.1 is at). I am guessing this is because my HU is 2V. Should i be worried or is this ok?

^^^Blinking means your electrical isnt supplying enough power to your amp, its it shouldnt be clipping if you set the gains right. Im sure your headlights dim too, you need to upgrade your electrical....

i am talking about the "overload" light on the amp. There's a few lights on the amp. In the manual, it says if the overload light blinks, it sending a clipped signal. I am not talking about the dimming lights in the car. My lights don't dim as much as they used before the big3.

Just did some more testing, and it seems as if the amp clips when i have the volume at 35. When i back down to 34, amp does not clip. Does this mean "the hu clips at 35"?

well, i got two 12 type Rs on a HIfonics Hercules. I've asked several people and a bunch of browsing before i bought this amp about my subs taking the herc. The box is a TCAB. I was told by many people that the Rs will take it. I'm not really worried about my subs taking the power. I am more worried about the clipping. The amp clips at volume 34-35 depending on the song. What does clipping sound like? Should i do the gains setup again, this time at volume 32 instead of 35?

Just did some more testing. It don't seem like this DMM Setup is accurate. I even did the DMM setup over, and set the volume at 26. I am supposed to set it at 44.7. I just set it a t 44 volts to be safe. I still got clipping at volume 26 according to the amp. The amp has this Overload light. If it blinks, that mean it's clipping. And it still blinked at 26 volume. Which 50hz test tone was i supposed to use. Which one out of these?
