I am studying to take my MECP test and jsut have a couple ?'s that are a little strange to me..MIght make me look a little stupid, But thats why im asking you'll!

Thanks! These are jsut some ?'s from a practice test...And some off the top of my head...

1. Which of the following cannot be determined by Ohm's Law?

- If a certain gauge wire is too small

-If the voltage supplied to an amplifier is too low

-If the system requires a more powerful amplifier

-If a higher output alternator is needed

-All of the above are correct

I'M pretty sure it is ALL OF THE ABOVE..

2. A Watt represents the conversion of one joule per second into:

- Light

-Heat

-Sound

-All of the above answers are correct

3. What is the impact of Kirchoff's Voltage Law if there is a poorly crimped terminal in the installation?

-There is no impact

-One Volt dropped through a connector will reduce Voltage to the equipment by One Volt

- One Volt dropped through a connector will reduce Voltage to the equipment by two Volts (1:2 ratio)

-One Volt dropped through a connector will reduce Voltage to the equipment by three Volts (1:3 ratio)

- There is an impact, but it is too low to measure

4. How do you determine the resistance in a live circuit?

5.What does a passive crossover for a basic two-way system consist of?

-Two passive filters

-One passive filter and one active filter

-One capacitor for the tweeter and one inductor for the woofer

-One bandpass filter

-One passive filter and one relay

5.Which of the following is the best diagnostic tool for use on a brand new car with a computer-controlled ignition, computerized climate control system and a trip computer?

-VOM (volt-ohm meter)

-Test light

-DMM (digital multimeter)

-Hydrometer

6. According to OSHA, what will cause hearing damage?

- Listening to a sound system playing at 90 dBA SPL for four hours

- Listening to a sound system playing at 95 dBA SPL for three hours

- Listening to a sound system playing at 100 dBA SPL for two hours

- Listening to a sound system playing at 105 dBA SPL for one hour

- Listening to a sound system playing at 110 dBA SPL for four minutes

7. What is sympathetic vibration?

-Noise made by processors

-The natural resonance of an object

-Distortion

-Ignition noise

8 .A pulse or unversal timer can be used to:

-Remove unwanted EMI from your security system

-Add a pulsed output for alternating flashing parking lights

-Convert a momentary duration pause into a longer or shorter duration signal

-Reverse the pulse from negative to positive for door triggers

9. What is a VSS signal?

Alot of these I am 90% Sure I know, but I've read everything I can think of, and still am not 1000% sure...I know i would pass if i took the test, but I still would like to figure these out!! Haha, Any help would be appreciated!

THANKS!!!

Ohh, On number 6, I have read that anythign over 90 CAN cause hearing damage, and anything over 135 will cause pain, but That doesnt really help...lol

4. How do you determine the resistance in a live circuit?

Using a DMM, a VOM will NOT directly measure resistance in a live circuit

5.What does a passive crossover for a basic two-way system consist of?

-Two passive filters

-One passive filter and one active filter

-One capacitor for the tweeter and one inductor for the woofer

-One bandpass filter

9. What is a VSS signal?

Vehicle Speed Sensor. A true VSS signal will vary with vehicle speed. When you measure it it should start at zero, and fluctuate between 5 and 12 volts with tire rotation.

answers in bold and underline

you're welcome

Thats about what i was thinking on most of them....I had no idea on the Loose crimp ring though...

THanks! and good luck to you 2!

trust and believe that these exact questions are on this years test. its pretty basic. if u have the study guide read and understand the margin notes and you will be ok. all the marginal notes will appear on the test.

1. more powerful amp

2. all the above

3. One Volt dropped through a connector will reduce Voltage to the equipment by One Volt

4. do Voltage / Current = resistance

5. DMM ( on mecp test test light will never be a correct answer, not even computer safe test lights. in school we used computer safe test lights but told us for the test no test lights)

6. for the test 100 db for 2 hours

7. The natural resonance of an object

8. Convert a momentary duration pause into a longer or shorter duration signal

9. a VSS is a Vehicle speed sensor. on the test they talk about VSS for the gps navigation part. i forget the actual numbers but i think with analog it would go from 5-12 volts with a few rotations of the tire and digital i think it turns on with the power of the car? its been a while since i took the test

but if you have any questions about the test or the book holla at me i just took the test back in january. i was going to Acoustic Edge in houston i just grad. not that long ago.

edit: well i guess somebody already put the right answers up. nvm

I don't agree with spooraker's answer to number one. All of them can use Ohm's law along with other equations. I'm not sure if that's what the question is intending or not.

I am 100% sure on that answer, it was on the study exam, in the practice exam on the book (with answer) key and on the actual test.

How can you use ohm's law to determine if you need a more powerful amp? Ohms law doesn't state that if you have a sub that handles 1000W and you are giving it 500W that you need more power...
